We have had some difficulties with this unit, the revised system should have already been finished but the project has been lingering and I am having my doubts of using this company as a reliable source to provide its product in a timely manner........read my post in this thread to get the scoop.

"We are currently on our microtech project and this is what we are out to do. However and we have encountered many problems with retrofitting the unit to the car and with the manufacturer of the unit. I am beginning to have serious doubts about the unit. Unless these guys dont get there act together real soon I will take our business some place else and develop something else. We already are eye balling a system that seams perfect and will be in the 800 dollar range compared to the microtech 1500 dollar or so range. If things do not go as planned we may be ditching this project and move on to another engine managment system very very soon. Something that will be plug and play and piggy back in nature having control of timing and fuel.
I will just have to wait and see"

That sux about the microtech system... I guess they just don't see the demand paying off..

$800 sounds alot better than $1600.

Thanks in advance Terry for doing what you are doing..

Do it 800.00 sounds heavenly. We need poeple like you to watch our backs. I'm in a fightin' mood because I asked my job for a promotion and they didn't give it to me so I put in my two weeks on Wed. and have a new job that pays more. Don't take their crap.

Yes over all hp will not be as high with a piggy system but 800 dollars is a lot nicer than 1500 dollars. Actually it may be even be more affordable than 800. I will keep everyone updated.

Piggy back would be great. I think that would be enough user control. But not so much to the point where it is really difficult to tune properly.

Sweet...going to post in your other thread, but whatever you have to do to get it to me QUICK! :-)

this $800 one sounds kind of like the UTEC i posted about...where it doesn't have FULL control, but does let you tune the important stuff.

Well its a little better than a utec. It will be more like the link I have on the car that can control timing and fuel on maps. This should not take us more than 2 months to complete. We have officialy scraped the microtech project and will be working with this new system:)

which system are you now working on?

i have heard thought that we will not have accesibility to tuning the lower rpm range because our ecu's run in a closed loop through a certain amount of rpm's but people were looking into how to get around this. Just curious if this is true or not?

Partial throttle can be fooled with...Open throttle cannot.

A well made piggy back will get around this issue. The "device" from FM Protege (aka voltage clamp) works at partial throttle only. However, the Link system they sell can get around the issue. They just haven't adapted one to the Protege yet.

That is why people want Terry to hurry up and get something together. Other people want FM to hurry up too...

have any of you guys heard of link electronics? almost all the modified mazda's i've met here use them - mainly because they are made in christchurch where i live, and they are quite cheap too. i'm pretty sure they are used around the world tho'.

i think their basic replacement computer is around $1000nz dollars which would equate to around $5-600us.

they have a higher spec version for twice that price and it is the unit i'd consider buying - it would work out to about $1000us but it is considered superior to anything in its price range. comes with pc tuning software.

here is the link to the somewhat sparse website....

Link Electronics Engine Management

just thought i'd throw another ball into the park. i've talked to a couple of guys who have the rally spec gtr's here and a couple of scarey miatas, they all love link.....

:D

I am NOT trying to make fun of you stef,

I just kind of think it's ironic you asking that of the person that opened this thread...

oh crap! i didn't take the time to read that other post from spoolin.....

Two things i didn't know -
1: he already has one
2: i am an idiot.

forget everything i said, in fact, pretend i'm not here k? ;)

cheers,
stef

:rolleyes:;

LOL@stef.

That's a good question tho.

Terry, what's wrong with the Link where you wouldn't want us to all run it?

The link is good, but seems to be a bit antiquated. Thats we why looked at other options. And if we go with a piggy back, might as well go with something that is more economical.
