I removed mine when I put on my megan catback about 5 months ago, no problems as of yet. The damn thing still hits the heatshield under the rear seats though...TheBryGuy said:I just took my heatshield off and bent it into shape with a pair of long pliers. It has just recently started rattling a little when the car starts up but I would imagine a set of motor mounts would stop that. Would it be really bad to just remove the heatshield altogether?
Under the car, above the cat. That's the one I removed.TheBryGuy said:Wait...are you talking about the heatshield under the car or over the manifold?
EDIT: I thought there was only one heatshield underneath the car...but then again I may not have been paying attention.
I believe we're talking about the same one. That's where the second cat is.TheBryGuy said:Ohhh, I'm talking about the one right under the shift linkage. That's the one that is rattling.
Na, and when I first removed it I was paranoid, constantly checking the shift boot and surrounding area for heat. Nothing, but I'm still gonna keep my fingers crossed.TheBryGuy said:We probably are. I thought the second cat was closer up under the engine? I don't know, it's friday and I'm probably talking out of my ass right now. You don't have any problems with your shifter getting hot in your hand or any burning of the undercarage?
I'm thinking less drastic... They make a rubberized underbody spray and if I can't bend my heat shield out of the way I'm just gonna coat the thing so it's not such a metallic ringy sound. Should deaden the clang right out.ProtoType5 said:I just removed my heat-shield as well...The one under the car, behind the shift linkage is above the resonator, not the second cat...
