MBC install

an EGT should be used in conjunction with a A/F meter
the egt is not that accurate without other info to support it. and tere right for light mods its not that effective
wide band o2 and fuel gauge are your best tools

Wide band O2 kicks ass, but unless you make it yourself, it is what- $700-$1000? Nice tools mentioned (wb and EGT), but a bit overkill for most.. WB is sweet for dyno tuning though even if you don't have one in the car!!

being the newbie that I am, having the greddy profec b bc (not installed of course)lets you pick a PSI and it does the 'mod' for you? So if i were to set it to 10psi on the BC thats all i have to do right? it takes over from there? and im assuming my results will be the same as ur mbc? SO the obviouse advantage to haveing the greddy is the "quickness" of changing PSI's? sorry for the dumb questions im uninformed. thanks!!

Ok....... Will a boost gauge suffice? I plan on an intake (if one is ever officially released), possibly a BOV, and that's about it. Possibly steel piping in the future; but I don't plan on going too crazy.

I don't remember if the numbers on the Profec correspond with boost or if they are just a numbered setting- it has been a couple of years since I had one. But yes, you can just adjust the boost with the dials on the Profec like you would under the hood with mine. Just a huge price difference :). That is why I made my E-MBC also, just not as attractive looking as the Profec.

AGR- A boost gauge will be fine if you just plan on upping the boost to a "proven" safe psi. It you want to push the edge and mod your car further than others, you will need tuning tools though.. From what I gather "talking" to you, you just want the car a bit quicker and more responsive than it is right now, so you won't need to go overboard. An MBC set to 9-10 psi between the HP increase and the increased spool up will make you pretty happy.. If you want more from there- it will be found moreso in exhaust and downpipe than anything you could do on the intake side. Heck- I remember the first DSM I modded- I did an MBC set to 17 psi (vs 11-12 stock), downpipe and exhaust all at the same time and the first time I jumped on it, it pulled RPMS's so quick, I thought the clutch was slipping. I couldn't believe the difference it made!! God, that was a long time ago :).. Once you get the MBC installed, let me know what you think :).

hey joe, what are your plans for the msp? i've always wondered that. did you drive your talon on the street?

My plans for the MSP are "take it as it comes" :).. I can say that exhaust and boost will make me happy- until the first time I get beat by an LS1 Z28 or something :).. I am used to just laughing at those guys, not being beat by them.. I really have to see how the car responds to tweaks and such first. If it is a nightmare, I will stop there. If it is screaming "thank you sir, may I have another", I will keep going with it :)..

Yes, I drove the Talon on the street- quite often too.. I was really impressed with both the car and myself for how well it handled street duty and how well I had the tuning for drivability being that it was a Haltech car and all.. I moved from Middletown, NY to Albany about five months ago and the car made the 110 mile (one way) drive regularly without a hitch. Heck, I have friends that barely even know how to check the oil in their cars that would borrow it for long drives and such when they didn't want to take their hoopties :).. It even got 26-27 MPG on the highway if you kept your foot out of it!!!

The 487 hp was on race fuel though, in street trim with less timing and boost, the car was in the 425 range (est.). Still plenty fast for a street 4 banger. It would go instantly sideways in first when the boost would come on :)..

PS- JDM, I checked that site out, but haven't contacted anyone there yet. I am doing some of my own things first, then I will compare notes with others :).
