Im a nubi here so i dont know if im asking a dumb question or not.
I was wondering if they sell a colder thermostat for these cars, if i
can get away with a 20deg colder themostat and not throw off any
engine codes that is 20deg less IAT = more HP.

Trying to go with the least expensive boltons first, do they even
make an aftermarket thermostat for these cars yet? 160deg would
be really nice and then im buying the cai.

Using a 160 degree thermostat is a terrible idea unless you want to increase engine wear significantly.

This car runs rich. Lowering the temp is going to make it use maps to run even richer. Last thing we need.
Some vehicles - my old V8 Dakota comes to mind, benefit from this trick. The Speed3, I don't think so.

CAUTION!!!
If you go with a cold thermostat you will increase engine wear!!!!!
Engines today have very tight tolerances, unlike old 1950-1980 cars. If you go to a colder thermo, the metal in the engine will not contract and remain expanded, increasing friction thus increasing wear!!!!

Don't do it!!!! That trick only works on old school engines!!!!

Engines run more efficiently if they are hot or at least at nominal operating temperature; especially with todays EFI systems.

MBC means manual boost controller. He said the cheapest gains. Good luck installing though. Can be a dangerous mod if you just blindy turn up the boost though. (naughty)

Cai and downpipe should give safe noticable gains but cost more.

Well you quoted me on post #7 and said something about lowering engine temps and your dakota kinda made you look like you dont know about mbc's(crazy)

i was actaully thinking about this idea. we run a 190 stock, a 180 can't hurt....

Whenever I think of a colder stat, the first thing that comes to mind is LS1s. God I love those motors...

I don't think a 180* would really kill us that much from a 190*. I'll leave it up to someone else to figure out how it works.
