2003 Mazdaspeed Protege
I have a Mazdaspeed Protege has it gives me the code of P0850 and also P0134. I dont know what the problem is. I took it to a shop and the mechanic said that someone messed with the wiring. I bought the car from a private owner. Does anyone have any solutions? I was wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram of the car. Also the car hesitates and the rpms drop almost causing the car to stall. When you floor the car the car jerks and does not pick up power and then power kicks back. I dont know whats wrong with the car? Anyone please help. Thanks.

I just went through this PO850 is the saftey park switch located on the trans,(the side closest to the fire wall) It is a black plug, look for the other black plug (around the wire harness on the drivers side of the valve cover and switch them! Or, there might be a pinched wire on the sensor,( if they had the trans out for anything!)

as far as the wiring goes, I dunno but the hesitation is more than likely the stock tune(which is hella rich) Look into maybe getting the SSAFC and you should be ok. Check and make sure your WGA is not blown and all of your vac lines are ok. No leaks anywhere.

I believe the vac lines and wga are fine. Do you think its a blown headgasket that may be causing it. I took it to a shop for a diagonostic and told me that I have a blown headgasket and that that I have coolant in the engine.

Just a suggestion, but make sure your cold pipe is all the was on your TB. Mine keeps falling off and makes the same power issues as your's. As far as the wiring, good luck. I'm the least helpful person on the subject.

P0134 is no signal from primary o2 sensor, that would cause a lot of issues, especially on the rich tune of a stock MSP.

alot of people are having issues with idling and off throttle response right now

if you have O input from the primary o2 you will cause the ecu to go into safe mode because it has no way of monitoring the 02 levels coming out of the exhaust so the ecu doesn't know if it is lean or rich, so its better to be rich than lean......which the ecu does by adding fuel and retarding timing. This makes the engine safe but it doesn't like WOT or quick changes in its envirionment like coming off the throttle to fast etc. I would personally start there

Blown head gasket huh? If you see white smoke coming out of your tail pipe when you start the car or during driving, that would be a sure sign. Another easy way to check is change your oil and see if there is any water in it (creates a frothy mayonnaise like substance). And lastly, do a compression check.

While it's not unusual to overboost or overheat these cars, your issue doesn't sound like a blown head gasket. Start with the O2 and make sure it's there, plugged in, and giving you a signal. Get rid of the codes first, then worry about the power consistency.

A piggy back (and WB O2 and guages) are still a good chunk of change, and a whole lot of time to be investing into an old car. So I wouldn't start going that route unless you are sure you want to stick with this car for a while.
