Mazdaspeed LSD Revisited

Ok...i have tried to piece together as much info on this subject from all the scattered threads.

1) The Mazdaspeed LSD is a direct fit for the MP3 or Protege5
2) The larger Mazdapeed axles are NOT needed for this type of modification
3) PN for the LSD itself: GS01-27-190A
4) This type of install has been done as a "DIY", but does require some good mechanical proficency
5) The LSD can be purchased through a "regular" mazda dealership, but each dealership has their own policies.
6) This is a good modification to do if you are having your clutch and flywheel installed (save $$$ on labour).

The following is what is needed thanks to PaulMP3 and Pro 5

I wasnt as clear as I should have been...

But we still need CLARIFICATION on what parts actually need to be order in advanced. And what are the specific PNs.... there still is a bit of confusion.

Pro 5? Paulmp3?

whare do you guys get all these mazdaspeed parts because i tried my local mazda dealer and tey said they cant get them so i dont know what the deal is?

All the parts listed in my quote is all that I needed for my conversion. Mind you I did all of the labor myself except pressing on the bearings. When Paul showed me what was listed on his invoice, I was wondering how come they double ordered some parts. There is one part in there that he didn't even need (1 G577-17-400 gear set, driven $122.20). This is the speedo sensor which can be reused from the transmission you already have. Here are the parts with the part numbers you need:

(2) G5ro-27-350B Bearing
(1) GS01-27-190A Diff &ring gear (LSD)
(1) f520-17-628 Nut, lock
(1) F521-17-628a Nut, lock

Sorry about the delay again but I hope this clears some things up. Only other cost you have to factor in is labor.

They broke it upon removal, so i had to get a new one. Make sure that they can press the spedo gear on, my dealer wouldnt do it so mazda speed told them to send it to corksport to be pressed:rolleyes:

That sucks! :( They break it and make you pay for it. I had my speedo gear (the one that is on the stock diff) and the bearings pressed on at a local repair shop for $35.00. You have to take off one bearing on the stock diff that is holding on the speedo gear so that you can reuse the speedo gear (plastic gear).

My dealer was clueless. they had my dam car for 5 weeks waiting on corksport. i dont want to think about it. I was pissed, i thought they could handle it. They didnt charge me for my clutch flywheel and gave me a rental car for the whole time(01 626). I was just happy to get it back, Im still happy i did it, Lsd is great.

I would definately have to agree with you on that one! The LSD is the s***! Don't know how you can drive a turbo car without it! I don't even have to mention how much better the car can handle turns. Start to understeer just hit the gas and she will pull you right back inline.

How about a How-To or some info regarding the install (other than parts). I've got to do my LSD install soon (but I'm dreading it. . .since I've never done anything like that before). Oh well, only one way to learn!

NOt to mention where to get it. I thought the MSP LSD was on the hands off list?

Have you tried any local mazdaspeed dealers? I think lil bevis picked up a quaife(sp) for fairly cheap.

It will ALWAYS depend on the dealer.... out of 5 dealerships all of them said that I could order them...ont all said they would install.

I can't offer a how to....as I didn't install it.
