Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I am considering getting a MSP. I was going to get a SRT, but the "fastest car under 20k" ballooned to 22k with new model and options. I'm also considering the new Ralliart or waiting for the Saturn Redline to come out. The 03.5 MSP looks pretty cool and with the discount is tempting. My question is what is the stock 0-60 times, I've seen anywhere from 6.8 to 7.6? and what kind of gains can be seen with exhaust, intake and larger intercooler?

i dont like it, but everyone in this lame forum (can be lame) will tell you to do a search, so ill save you some time. "Do a search"

It's a bit tricky to nail down, there are all sorts of claims. From what I've read you can get a MSP close to a SRT4's power with just a few mods, probably less than $500 investment, depending on which way you go.

I've gotten a 0-60 of 6 seconds flat with an Injen CAI and a boost controller @ 10 psi. My best stock run was 7.04 seconds. Both were measured with a beltronics vector FX2. Yes, they are accurate, when I took my car to the track the vector was always within 0.1 second of the track's time. (for 60', 330', 1/8', 1000', and 1320' times).

Intake/exhaust/FMIC should net you some pretty potent gains with the MSP.

I run 14.6's with no intake or exhaust upgrades........ just alittle boost and really cold air.

Just recently dyno'd my MS.

150hp@wheels
155tq@wheels

AWD/2WD Dynapack chassis dynamometer was used.

2500miles on the car.

The car will run right on 7 secs. stock 0-60.

The SRT4 is faster, but its a rental car with 17's, a big turbo and a big wing.

I wouldn't touch anything DSM with a 10 foot pole unless you love your car being in the shop. That was my experience with an Eclipse, anyway.

Also look at the Focus SVT. My wife has one and its a blast to drive. Its a tiny bit slower than the MSP, but it handles about as well and has a nice little screamer of an engine.

The Nissan SR-4 Spec V puts up very similar numbers to the MSP and does it sans turbo, which will probably be good for long term durability. There's no replacement for displacement, as they say. That motor has a lot of torque- you can light the tires off in that rig all day. Its also the cheapest of the lot.

id get either the nissan spev v or the msp. cant go wrong with either one. stay away from dsm dood, all your asking for is getting owned by the shop.

thanks for input guys. I've heard the Spec v's engine broke fairly easy for a couple guys and it can't take more than 5 lb boost. no opions on Redline? it's not supposed to come out until next summer though.

the redline looks interesting, it will be fun to see them when they come out and how they perform in production skin.

Welcome to the site!

Out of curiosity, why are people telling this guy to stay away from DSM? The old DSM cars have not entered into this discussion... the SRT is NOT a DSM design, in fact, Chrysler and DSM (Mitsubishi) aren't doing much together anymore...

That said, I agree that he SHOULD steer clear of the current Eclipse...

??????????????????

Chrysler and DSM aren't doing much together??????

That's a Mitsubishi supplied turbo under the hood of the SRT-4.

Mitsu also makes the Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Sebring coupes (not the convertible)- they're built off the Eclipse/Galant platform.

I'm told that the Spec V's motor isn't the best for turbocharging, but that may have something to do with the newness of it. Options will increase and reliability of those options will improve as time goes on.

As for the Redline, the output numbers look pretty nice and the supercharger should provide good power throughout the RPM range. May be worth a look. The interior of the current Ion is not very appealing- I hope they improve on it. The current model Ions are selling VERY poorly.

saturns are not reliable. Lets see, wasnt the ion rated the worst car built in 10 yrs by car and driver??? Let me guess a SUPERCHARGED saturn is going to be WAY more reliable...

i dunno lol the car may be fine but there is no way in hell im buying a saturn.

I don't think reliability is too bad for the Saturns, they're just not very appealing cars. They look and feel cheap. The materials they use on the interior aren't nice. There's a lot of road and engine noise. They aren't terribly bad cars (like the Chevy Cavalier is- terrible reliability, safety, driving dynamics), but they aren't quite as good as the competition. They don't have the driving dynamics of the Focus or Protege, the style of a Golf or Jetta or the excellent reliability of a Corolla or Civic.

I'm tired of this buy a car based on how fast it would run in a straighline only, because this MSP then is not for you. I'm trying to save you headaches as you realize that the Econobox + turbo+Big Wing next to you is faster than your Mazda Econobox+suspension and everything else (I'm trying to remain PC by not naming that other econobox). If you only care for straightline and speed, don't get this car as it will cause less whining on this board for all of us.

PSKA says "this is a lame ass forum" but you on it dogg so you must be a lame right. I hate when people come on a forum that is dedicated to something and they talk s*** on it. I'm gonna hold back on what I really would say if I talked to dude in person.

Leave the silly Canuck alone, eh? he's actually pretty cool...just a bit rough around tha edges. He generally sticks to the "loft above a great party" (Canada) forums. At least, that's where I first saw him. :D
