i dont think u could actually create that gap yourself, so my guess is that was there before u did it

btw im in richmond bc , hello to vancouver!

Welcome, the Mazdaspeed Axle back should have some kind of, metal like, gasket in between the two. If you dont have it you could always make one with something. Someone on these forums should be able to help you more with this.
I hope this helps

the gasket can be obtained through myself or your local dealer for not much money at all

I don't think there is a gasket for that. At least I didn't have one on my car when I put my R/B on.

When I put mine on I bought a new gasket from my local dealer. It ran me $12 and change with tax. That should fix the gap.

Right. Now if he didn't get that lip seated all the way in then yea he'll have the gap. Just unscrew it and try to wiggle it back in place.

props to Protege Garage....always seeing a sale on everyone else's disgrace..lol

Don't recall the metal lip. When I took my OE axle back off the old gasket was dust. What didn't fall off I rubbed off with my finger. The night before though I stopped and picked up the new gasket in case I needed it. So I put it on and bolted up the the MSP axle back. Haven't had any issues so far.

Rock on!! (ughdance)

there was no gasket when i took my stock one off......so i guess i will new need to buy one then.....there is no leaking so far...but i only had it on for less than a day.....so i will hv to check on it later
thx for the help guyz

You need to get a cheap gasket like was mentioned. You should also invest in some high temp gasket sealer as well. I took the time to do it right on the P5. I also put antisieze on the bolts etc. Nice and snug, no issues.

I hurried throguh it on my Miata, used no sealer, and just slapped a gasket in there and cranked down. I have a leak. Now the bolts are securely rusted on too.

Hum, that's funny. Some say they had gaskets and some didn't. I didn't and I've had mine on for 2+ yrs with no leaks. WISH I COULD SAY THAT FOR THE FING WAGNER HEADER!!!!! Got to get it REwelded again, this is number 5!

it seems that the gap does has some leakings....so gasket is needed
btw...just curious....will the leaking causes any long-term damage to the car if it is not fixed???
