mazdaspeed 6 @ 18psi with 91 octane GAZ !! VERY BAD :(

bah i put 91 in my car and my J&S is perfectly happy with it. i'm usually between 1 and 1.1bar of boost (which is like 14.5 to 16psi)

but i guess its different with the 6 because of the higher compression?

91 octane is the highest gas we can get at AZ w/o buying race gas at very few places around town....
Mike

Yea, i keep forgetting about that over there in the western states.....maybe we're just spoiled over here with 93 at every corner and 100, 110, etc... octane all around town. I know its not terrible to put 91 octane, its not like 89.....but proper tuning should be done to run 91. yes, i know.....the car is new, not many ems' out there to tune with.

you guys can get 100 and 110 at the gas station ?!?!! or you're talking about those 5gal drums you can buy at speed shops with VP or Torco race gas (starts at 96 octane i think?)

I can get 100 and 110 at most stations near my house. I live in Michigan, and near a race trak. But the gas I'm talking about comes from regular gas stations.

Hehe....no didnt mean for it to come out that way. Theres 93 at every corner.......and 100, 110, 115, etc. octane all around town. You can get it a speed shops all over Houston and pumps at pretty much every race track in town.....theres quite a few.

not many places have 96+ octane in stock, although we can order it no problem. pumps here have 87-89-91 and some have 94, that's it.

i wish i could find 100 that easily hehe

Only 2 gas station companies carry 94 around here - Sunaco and Petro Canada. Most gas stations only go to 91.

Check out Stinsons on Bank Street, it's probably 10km past all the dealerships around where the airport is.

110 at the pump :)

I put 15l per tank and fill the rest with 94 from sonoco. What a difference.

that's awesome

is it unleaded?

unleaded racing fuel is like 80$ VP 98 octane and 95$ for Torco's 108 octane for 19litres (5gallons)

Yeah it's unleaded. I tried VP racing fuel once. It was $100 for 5 gallons of 103 octane. $5 / litre is too much. And it's a pain in the ass to get in your car, having it at the pump is awesome.

They also sell in bulk but I have no where I can store barrels of gas :)

Always keep an emergency bottle of NOS brand octane booster (yes holley has made a very good product) SCC gave it a great review It raised the octane about 3-4 if I remember well..

Picking up my MS6 Friday, just for my own knowledge, if not driving hard (under 3K rpm's and 1/4 throttle) to and form work will the ecu adapt to 91 or 89 octane and run ok? (ok meaning without damage) I know my last car could adapt to just about anything (it just pulled timing) but it was N/A.

If you don't know from EXPERIANCE please say that your speculating, i still want ot haer opinions but i wanna know what is opinion, fact, and experiance!

In the owners manual said that you will experience some lack of power.

Remember that the lower the octane the faster it will ignites. It may ignite before the the maximum pressure is reached on the combustion chamber (cylinder). If this situation is severe enough it will create engine knock. I do not know if this engine has a knock sensor, but if it does the ECU will retard the timing to compensate. All of these will translate to power decrease....
