mazdaspeed 3 VS. '06 Civic Si

I would rather have an Accord Coupe EX ANY DAY OVER ANY MAZDA VEHICLE, regardless of horsepower (which by the way is the car I had before I got my Civic - it was an 03 Ex Sedan). I traded it in cause I got bored of driving a sedan.

(nuts)

Honda makes world class trannys and engines, mazda has yet to compete seriouly on that level. Anyways, i've owned 2 msps to know that even though its a great value at under 15k. No way could it complete with honda power trains. I don't think honda will have any trouble selling the new Si's, and sure it will sell a whole lot of them while mazda will be giving rebates.

It's gonna be between 220-240, not a drop above. I wish it was, but they can't be eating into the MS6's territory like that.

After it's out for a few years, I will probably be selling the P5 and buying one if it lives up to expectations and isn't as bug-ridden as the MSP's.

no question they will sell... but which would you rather have?

actually the ms3 will have the same stuff as the ms6 (274hp awd, turbo-charged 2.3L), as long as it makes it to america....they've made it already, but hasn't been released...still working on it

sorry bud but i hate to break it to you. mazda is not going to create the exact same car twice. they will each have to compete with different markets. they wont have the same numbers. trust me.

From what I've seen in the Mazda EPC, the 06 MZ3 is going to be a step up above the 04 and 05 models. The GT MZ3 (already in the showroom where I'm at) boasts a nice spoiler, a sunroof, and a 5 speed AT.

As some of you have posted already (just reiterating) Mazda isn't going to produce two identical vehicles with only differences being exterior/interior(/price). That's causing a rift in your sales for the 6 considering the 3 will be priced at much less. The engine being used doesn't matter. It will be detuned if it's the same as the 6 and let the real enthusiasts tune it up. From what i've heard the ms6 is going to be marketed as a luxury performance vehicle anyway. Kinda like a supercharged mercedez but in mazda territory. I've seen numbers as high as 270 and claims of awd myself but think about the new eclipse. Their concepts and development vehicles claimed numbers touching the 400s. No way do they bring a concept 100% to life. Production costs are just way too high and take away from the company's own personality that they bestow unto their cars. Just imagine if everyone took their development cars and produced them 100%. Every car on the road would be pretty much the same: various crossdressed F1 cars.
Dont count on 270 awd. (and please dont take this as a flame or bash on the mz3. Ilove my hatch and would love to trade up for a ms3. Just trying to bring you guys down from the clouds.)
Also the only car that i have seen surprise people on the power ratings is the SRT-4. People expected 230 crank and got a kick in the nuts when they hit the gas pedal. Please tell me of more surprises like this if you know some.

MS6 at 274HP and AWD is not concept. It's reality.

If they can do it for the 6, they can do it for the 3.

Not that they WILL, just that they can.

And as far as "Mazda isn't going to produce two identical vehicles with only differences being exterior/interior(/price)."

Isn't that exactly what they did with the 5-door and 4-door models of the 3?

Just sayin...

A front wheel drive car can't handle that much power anyway, the torque steer would make it undrivable.

i beileve with the stage 3 kit from dodge the srt-4 makes close to that number. given its not stock but the kit does come from dodge and it is fwd. but dodge does put a lsd standard on the srt-4 now.

Juan's Hiboost kit is pushing over 300hp to the wheels and it's still driveable (or so he says).

The stage3 kit put 385hp! Just FYI

"Isn't that exactly what they did with the 5-door and 4-door models of the 3?"

Yes but thats the same carline. That's just a difference of civic sedan and civic hatchback. pretty much same thing.

actually its not the same thing. The 2 versions of the 3 have different parts, i read they dont share many at all. This actually proves very costly for mazda and in a way the cannabalize each others sales. i they could offer the same numbers on the 3 that they will have on the 6 without worrying about cannabalizing each other more than they already are.
