Mazdas at Osaka Automesse 2010

can u do that safely? i mean add a rotor and not have excess engine vibration, unless the engine is a 4 rotor engine to start, dunno much about rotor engines, cept that their little triangles with apex's that don't seal well, making it not lend itself so well to turbo/super charging...

i remember werent wenkle engines like the most hp/ltr till they change the way they counded the size of the engines?

rx-9 fo teh win!

true that, and the fact that they read from right to left.
In Japanese, yes, but I imagine they read English like everyone else. Besides, all the letters are also backwards (not just words written backwards). I'm pretty sure it's just an aesthetic thing (mirroring sides).

It's actually quite easy to add additional rotors (much easier than adding additional pistons :p). All you do is add additional intermediate plates and rotor housings. Theoretically you could go even bigger than a four rotor but then you run into size constraints (think inline eight-cylinders). The hardest part is to come up with an eccentric shaft, which are normally custom made ($$$) as Mazda never produced anything greater than a three rotor engine for mass production. Everything else is the same. Due to the very nature of a rotary engine, the vibration difference between a two rotor and a four rotor would be negligible.

Regarding your last comment, I believe the S5 N/A RX-7's (1989-1991) have the highest horsepower per displacement of any mass-produced, stock engine (160 HP per 1.3L). However, this does not take into account that there is great debate on how to measure the displacement of a rotary engine.

EDIT: and it's WANKEL!

maybe...well in japan they have two different ways of writing. in Kanji which is like English characters but written to be for japan

my brother who is learning japanese says they have kanji, hiragna, katagana.

so it may be any of those, except for kanji because that used the weird character things.

That is a bad MPV. I wish they still sold them here, DISI engine and all wheel drive.

Nice Pictures! I went to this show last year! Too bad I missed it this year! :(
I'm in Osaka often as my wife is from there. Any more pictures? I have a
ton from last year I can share if you want to see them?

What you are talking about is just what you have heard. There is no
sealing problem. And there a beast when turbo/super charge. Many people
aren't very good at tuning them is the only problem. I've been into
rotaries for 15 years. And I still hold my personal record of zero engines
blown. I've owned 11 second gens over the years. 7 of them turbo.
And my current beast is in the garage (in my sig) while I do some custom
things to her. But until you've owned one. You really are missing out on
some awesome engineering that has a lot of potential.

As always...Everyone's comments are very much appreciated, thanks! :D

Nice....too bad that 4 rotor wont fit easy in my P5. lol

No harm in trying...Rear Engine Setup??? :p

More pics!!!!!!!

That's most of 'em...You can see all of them via my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26077311@N06/

Nice Antoine. The 2 looks great. On the 4 rotor, why the backwards lettering on the drivers side?

Thanks...Love the 2 as well...As for the backwards decal...I'm guessing that's an aesthetic "thing"...:D

/I just love that mazda 2

(mswerd) Who wouldn't!?

Any other info on that 4-rotor? Turbo (or two)? N/A peripheral or bridgeport?

Good question...Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to chat with the Tuner...I do believe he said it's a kit from Australia and that they are building / tuning it to their specs...Judging by the fact that crazy horsepower is not usually as high of a prioirty than handling / overall performance in Japan...I wouldn't be surprised if they go the NA route with some degree of porting...I'm pretty sure he said it's destined for the D1GP circuit!

Kansai Kids Unite!!

Kobe's my hood!

Haha...I remember you PMd me about that...It's my hood as well now...I live here!!! :D

Is that 4 rotor staying NA, or are they going to be throwing a snail or two on it?

Good question...See my post above for magnumP5...:)

So sexy.... /nuffsaid

INDEED! ;)

Mazda 2 looks cool with some visual mods like that!

Couldn't agree more and I think A LOT of people will be thinking the same thing when the 2 hits North America!

wow, some sweet rides there antione!!

Thanks man! :D

awesome pics. trial and magic always make good cars.

Thanks...Yeah, both "shops" seem to be very professional high-end operations!

awesome pics. cant wait till that 2 comes over here.

Thanks...Even though I live in Japan now, I also can't wait for you guys to get your hands on the upcoming Mazda2! (woowoo)

Holy crap @ 4 rotor.

My exact words when he lifted the hood! (ohsnap!)

Def some nice stuff there! That Mazda 2 is Sick!

Maybe we'll see some modified 2's in the "Sickest Rides" thread someday!

nice demio...

Seems to be the general reaction...:)

No doubt these custom 4Rotor setups seem to be tricky to tune and you've got to have a custom eccentric shaft etc but it can definitely be done and RACED...I've seen two different 4Rotors run on a racetrack with my very own eyes!

Great pics, got any moarrr???? Thanks for sharing!!!!

Thanks! Check here for more pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26077311@N06/ Enjoy! :D

The current JDM MPV is one of the coolest "VANS" around....I'd love to rock one! (rockon)

That 2 looks classy. Not to much flare but still sick(idhitit)

That pretty much sums it up! (thumb)

Let's see your pics! :D

I see ur point about the mirrored sides. I agree.
Trail and Magic are definitely professionals at what they do.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but the one sided/backwards/negative decals have been popular in drifting for a while. It's one of the few things ricers never picked up so perhaps fewer people have seen it?

yeah that scoot 4 rotor its crazy. Dsport is doing a article about in the next mag . I can't wait to see it!

Antoine - I do miss these car shows in Japan. I had a chance to go to the Tokyo Auto Saloon in '08 and '09. It sure it worth the sight :)
