Mazda2 SRS system

not sure if this is right section but i was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on our airbag system. I've heard on some cars if you replace an air-bagged seat with a bucket seat, it will disable your entire SRS system, as it is now missing that sensor. Then I've also heard on some cars, like the honda fit, if you swap out an air bagged seat, only that airbag would be disabled and the rest of the system still works normally. Anyone know how the mazda2 srs system would work?

It's hard to say without looking at a pinout or at the factory service manual. I know in Proteges with side airbags if you removed the seat it would disable the entire system and the warning light would illuminate. On the Proteges the airbag control unit looked for a certain range of resistance across each sensor. You could fool the system into thinking the sensor was still there but installing a resistor across the appropriate pins on the now-open connector. Again, without a pinout and a FSM for a 2 I can't say if this will work or not.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I believe that they have something you can plug in to make your system think the airbags are still installed. That way, if it is an issue, you should be able to work around it.
