Mazda was good to me!

Brought in a new to me, MSP because of the clunk, an intermittently distorted radio w/ a faulty volume knob, and a screech from my turbo.
When I dropped it off this morning I saw a late 90's Protege sitting outside the service station and thought "F*@$!" So I go in and sign all there stuff, and tell them what's wrong with it. The guy behind the counter say's, "Let me go find you a car."

I was like thank god they're not sticking me in that Protege. So he pulls a car around behind a van so I can't really tell what it is. I walk over there, and woo hoo!!!!

A brand spankin new Mazda 6 Sport Wagon.

This thing is suweetah.

I thought they may give me trouble since I'm only 23 but, I think the reason they didn't hassle me was;
A. It was a dealership loaner

B. I was in my work clothes. I am a regional rep for a large cigarrette manufacturer.

They call me and say they're gonna fix the clunk and the stereo but they can't get the turbo to act up. So I drive down there and talk to the tech. He say's there's nothing wrong with the motor. I asked do you know much about trubos. He said a little.

I then opened the hood and showed him where it was coated in oil. He said he didn't even look at it. Also said he never heard a screech from he turbo.

Turns out he didn't even get the car hot, Just took it around the block.

So I take him for a ride and let him hear it. He's all like "Oh."

Duh!

He thinks it may be the air line to the turbo????

Say's the turbo is not hurt. I want it replaced because something wasn't operating properly. Is that too much to ask?

Mazda will pay them for the work regardless so WTF?

Anyways, that's my story.

Does a faulty air hose sound about right?

Could this be the answer to everyone with the "screech, whistle, squeel"?

Should they have to replace the turbo because all the components were not operating properly?

if they pull the turbo to spec it out and they find nothing is wrong you will be charged for the labor at proll $85/hr. Just let them change whatever they want and if the noise doesnt go away, turn around and take it back to them. the fact that they are doing this much w/o much of a hassle and giving you loaner car would make me overjoyed.

My thing is, I've only got 10k more miles on the factory warranty and don't want the turbo, due to a fault hose, to blow at 50,001 miles.

I guess I'll just let them see what it is. I hope it is just a faulty hose, and that no damage was done to the turbo.

He said with an air leak like that, I probably wasn't running more than a few pounds of boost once the car got hot. I initially thought it was heat soak, but I guess not.

Just Keep Your Reciepts... Most Dealerships Write Down The Customer Complaints And Their Fixes On The Reciept. If You Keep Them You'll Have A Running History Of All Your Complaints And If Your Turbo Goes Out After Warranty But You Have Complained About A Problem With It Before Your Warranty Expired They Will Usually Fix It. If They Don't You Can Call Mazda Na And Get It Handled.

Are you sure it's not the turkey sound? Like a fluttering after a hard acceleration and then throttle release.

LMAO

That's what the tech was saying. I just hear normal turbo whine.(braindead

Now I call them today and they say they don't know what's wrong with it.(uhm)

Were you under warranty?

Tell Derek up there (the service mgr.) that I said three things:

1) I still say they owe me one after I swapped in a new tranny and LSD...unnecessarily...because I had to prove to them that my welded LSD wasn't causing the racket I was hearing. It was wheel bearings they screwed up while working on the car.
See: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111093 , check the last post.

2) That horrible clutch and rear motor mount that were in there when they drove it last are now out, and the car drives as smooth as stock.

3) I'm now just past 50k miles, and they won't be seeing me again. Unless I buy a MS3...lol.

Anyway, give 'em hell. They've got it coming.

Well they called me and said they replaced the turbo and everything was fine.

So I pick it up and it's doing the same srceeching noise, so I turned right around and dropped it back off.

Now I am back in the loaner, and really dissappointed.

They said they're gonna have to dig deeper into my car, and believe the screech is an air leak somewhere.(pissed)

good luck man. Mazda once gave me a Ford F-250 4door cab as a loaner. TWO-fifty, man. It was like a monster truck. I don't even know why they had that in there fleet???

I've had a horror story with the dealership that I won't get into here, but it almost worked out in the end (after a huge headache). I've also had really good experiences with them, so good luck, just good luck.

I was in an accident in the MSP, it was repaired by the insurance company. I hit a curb taking a corner too fast (there was sand on the pavement).

4 months later I took the MSP that was stock and very low miles to the dealer because I heard a clicking noise when I turned the car with the wheel all the way in either direction. After inspecting the car they told me my front axle was broken. They said that this is very odd and wouldn't happen under most driving conditions. They said they would fix it under warranty ONE time, but if it ever happened again, they would not fix it. I said "no problem" and told them I understood this would be a ONE TIME fix. They fixed it and I came back to the dealer to pick it up the next day. When I got there they showed me the old axle and that it was cracked. They said there was NO WAY this would happen without there being some exstreem driving situation. They said I would have to pay for it and presented me with a bill for $850.

At that point I didn't know what to say. The car was fixed and just sitting there. They said they would fix it under warranty but now they said I couldn't take it without paying the nearly thousand dollar bill!!! Its not like I could tell them to UNFIX it.

So I told them I was in an accident months ago. They said I should see if my insurance company would pay for it. I was on the phone with them instantly. They sent a guy to the dealership to look at the part, and then sent my car and the part to the place that did the original work.

After spending the WHOLE DAY, worrying about if my insurance would pay for the damage, they finally said the would. but that's not the end of my story....

i had the screetch and the turbo replaced, and then i got a 3" turboback and intake, and the sound went away. i think its just the stock stuff is too much of a restriction.

...continued...

so the ins company is looking at the bill and think that it was a little high on the parts end. The company they work with charges them $60 an hour for labor and the dealer was over $100, they told me they would eat that cost, but called the parts department to get a quote for the parts. They first called a different Mazda dealer in town and got a quote. LOWER THAN WHAT WAS CHARGED! So they called the mazda dealer that did the work. SAME LOWER PRICE!!! So I go back to the mazda dealer. My service guy after going to the parts counter insists that the prices are correct. I put him on the phone with my ins guy and they argue and finally I'm on the phone with the ins guy. He says they are ripping us off and REFUSE to pay the extra amount. I don't blame him, Mazda was ripping ME off and I was pissed, BUT at the end of a VERY long and stressful day I told my ins guy I would take car of it and hung up. I was exhausted and just told Mazda I would pay the nearly $100 out of pocket and just get the hell home. That's the end. So good, bad, f*cking horrrible. END.

END.

Wow, I guess I should be very grateful for my dealer being so cool.

That blows that someone would try to mark up on their parts.

I know I shouldn't really worry about the screech, but damnit it has a warranty and I don't want to sound like a bottle rocket going down the road at 3.7-4.7k rpms.

*Forgot to Update*

Well after the car went back in for a few weeks they ended up replacing the exhuast with the second MSP exhaust, the Mazdaspeed one. Well that didn't get rid of the screech, so I figured since the warranty doesn't help with anything time to start modding, so I did.

Now the car is a beast.
