Hi and bye, I guess.
I used to post here alot, especially when I first got my MSP. As the car broke down, I broke down too, lost interest and really have only lurked for most the last year picking up TSB's, tips etc. I gave up on fixing the clunk, the squeaks and my turbo/coolant problems and turned to the lemon law. I worked with Brian Parker from http://www.lemonaid.com/ and sent Mazda NA a "last chance letter" eventually this led to an out of court settlement where they bought back the car for full value except for a small mileage offset.
After 15+ attempts to fix the car and days without the car I had no choice but I was very sad to turn in the car. The dealer, Bill Cook Imports in Farmington Hills, Michigan had tried their best to fix the car they even tried to negotiate with Mazda NA for me since I owed more to the bank than the car was worth in wholesale. In the end the only way to get out of the car was to use a lawyer. Bitter sweet, and quite sad really isn't it. Like I said the dealer was cool, so I was pleased with the offer he made me on a 2004 Mazda 6s, not quite an MSP but I am so jaded now with cars in general that it actually works for me.
What I miss the most is the sweet shifting and pedal placement of the MSP. The clutch on the 6s takes too much of a step, and I'm going to have to work to achieve heel and toe. Different breed of car. Still surprised at myself for going with a Mazda but I know the guys on the line in Flat Rock, proudest and best UAW crew I have worked with.
I will check back from time to time. Moderators and frequent contributors thanks for running and making this site what it is.
cheers
Andy
P.S. I have some very decent 15" winter tires and rims for sale. The rims are Fondmetal 6200's from their Classic Line with Michelin Arctic Alpin, I got them the same week I got the MSP in Jan 2003 - I couldn't bear throwing steelies on a brand new car. If anyone has any idea what they are worth or wants to make me an offer let me know. They cost me around a $1000 and have 1-1/2 winters on them - about 10-12,000 miles I would guess.
