Mazda NA bought back my MSP

Hi and bye, I guess.

I used to post here alot, especially when I first got my MSP. As the car broke down, I broke down too, lost interest and really have only lurked for most the last year picking up TSB's, tips etc. I gave up on fixing the clunk, the squeaks and my turbo/coolant problems and turned to the lemon law. I worked with Brian Parker from http://www.lemonaid.com/ and sent Mazda NA a "last chance letter" eventually this led to an out of court settlement where they bought back the car for full value except for a small mileage offset.

After 15+ attempts to fix the car and days without the car I had no choice but I was very sad to turn in the car. The dealer, Bill Cook Imports in Farmington Hills, Michigan had tried their best to fix the car they even tried to negotiate with Mazda NA for me since I owed more to the bank than the car was worth in wholesale. In the end the only way to get out of the car was to use a lawyer. Bitter sweet, and quite sad really isn't it. Like I said the dealer was cool, so I was pleased with the offer he made me on a 2004 Mazda 6s, not quite an MSP but I am so jaded now with cars in general that it actually works for me.

What I miss the most is the sweet shifting and pedal placement of the MSP. The clutch on the 6s takes too much of a step, and I'm going to have to work to achieve heel and toe. Different breed of car. Still surprised at myself for going with a Mazda but I know the guys on the line in Flat Rock, proudest and best UAW crew I have worked with.

I will check back from time to time. Moderators and frequent contributors thanks for running and making this site what it is.

cheers
Andy

P.S. I have some very decent 15" winter tires and rims for sale. The rims are Fondmetal 6200's from their Classic Line with Michelin Arctic Alpin, I got them the same week I got the MSP in Jan 2003 - I couldn't bear throwing steelies on a brand new car. If anyone has any idea what they are worth or wants to make me an offer let me know. They cost me around a $1000 and have 1-1/2 winters on them - about 10-12,000 miles I would guess.

are they giving you money back for your msp AND giving you a new car?

Sounds like they bought back his car, and the dealer offered him a great deal on a new 6S, so he used that money to buy the 6S.

I would have never bought another Mazda.
Shrug, it was in the class and price of car I was interested in. I test drove a tonne of cars and it simply won out. Deal was right. Car was right. Doesn't hurt to drive a UAW built car in my trade and this one is made in my back yard.

did you have the spicy rolling around here in ann arbor? i saw you once on stadium. I have the black mazdaspeed heavily modified. I am friends with chris who works at discount tire (yellow mp3) . I believe he worked on your car.

Hey, I'm the guy that had the Black MSP in the Cook service department when you turned your car in! Sorry to hear about all the problems that you had with it. It's sad that I know all the techs at Cook by name and they know me. I hope it never gets to the point that I have to turn it back in as a lemon though. Good luck with the 6s!

BTW, not looking to jack the thread, but azian6er, do you go up to BW3's in Novi on Tuesdays? I live in Westland and go up there sometimes with my friend who has a silver RSX-S. He said that he recognized your car and the yellow turbo MP3 from the Mazda/WRX meet a while ago. I really want to see what you've done since then (and maybe take a ride in the sweetest MSP I've seen... ;)

Yeah, the irony of that. There I was meeting the lawyer for Mazda, turning in the MSP, getting the check and buying a 6 and there goes a sweet black MSP with black rims rolling into service. The service guys at Cook made the hassle less painful and basically made me comfortable sticking with Mazda.

Take care

That's good to hear. They have been really nice to me there, although I don't think that the tech's, as nice as they are, know s*** about stink. I was in for thesecond time having them put the steering pump belt back on, and as it turns out, the pump was bad in the first place. They also f'ed up the silver painted piece that goes around the stereo and A/C controls when they took the head unit out to fix the broken stereo mount cage. I don't think they've ever heard of a trim tool. Oh well, they never gave me hassle for anything, and I've gotten the pedals and shift knob replaced along with various trim pieces that they screwed up.

Also, I don't know if you noticed, but there was a thrid MSP (Titanium 2003.5) in the bay as well.

Damn! I'd come out there, but I can't make it. I guess I'll have to hold off until Tuesday. How's the turnout been? The last time I went there, it was mostly WRX's, an N/A Supra, and a turbo GS-R from Team Integra.

You and you buddies should come out to Detroit sometime on a Friday or Saturday night. There are always races and a ton of people on Telegraph and Joy. It used to be all Mustangs and Cameros, but lately there have been a lot more imports, including a pair of extremely fast turbo Supras a few Evos and STi's, and quite a few SRT-4's. I'd like to see Mazda represented better than I can do myself. In fact, instead of taking my MSP tonight, I was kickin' it Corky-style in a MazdaSpeed Miata. Never felt so gay in my entire life...
