Well after enough calls, letters and faxes to Mazda's consumer compliance dept and the Attorney General's office its finally done and over with. The spicey orange blown engine b**** mobile is gone!

30 days in the shop and unavailable to me-Mazda buys back my car "voluntarily" otherwise it would have been labled a lemon so they're saving some face but i'm still coming out on top here. It was purchased back for the full financed price of the car and i even made out with an extra $2,000 in my pocket when figuring in what was to be paid off on the loan and the over mileage penalty.

I'll post pictures of my new ride, an '03 Jetta GLI when i get a chance.

cool. Over Milage penalty? Was it leased? hmmm, Might be something I have to be aware of.

Good luck and nice new ride...my bro drives a Golf. Although I would have rawked a MS Miata or an RX-8

Already on Vortex and have been for a couple years. Living in an area filled with snow and ice a good portion of the year led me away from any rear wheel drive sports car. Almost went with the Volks R32 but didn't want to not have a decent car for a couple months while i saved up for a good sized downpayment.

Spacemonkey-the way the law works with over mileage is that anything over 12k miles gets worked into a formula that i don't have in front of me right now. It would have been another $3k in my pocket that i got whacked with but i am clean and clear of the car so i couldn't care less. It is afterall a vehicle i had for the past year that did me wrong time and time again so i figure it was like one miserable rental.

So if anybody's looking to pick up a Spicey Orange Mazdapseed in the CNY area (syracuse) its at Roger Burdick Mazda. 25k miles on the clock and about 5k of those are on a fresh new engine and turbo that were covered under warrenty

Damn...my friends MSP clutch and LSD went out and they refused to replace it under warrrenty. Cluthches are only cover like for 1 yr 12,000 miles or so. And they didnt replace the LSD under warrenty becuase the clutch was ****** which means the car was pushed...from what they say. They also hassel him on replacing the vaccum line which they claimed he added a boost controller. What BS...If it was me I would have said cancel my warrenty because obviously your not replacing anything. Anywasy the stealership is raping him...said somethign like $800 for replacing the clutch (BS)...and the total bill is around $2k. And they gave him BS about not having it in stock and has to be shiped from Japan which takes 10-13 days. But they did say if he provided his own part they could put it in.

Whatever...I stilll love my speed and instead of investing in performance product im gonna save up for stuff that makes the car more reliable. Clutch mainly...just incase...better safe then sorry.

The dealership has been very good to me so i've really got no gripe about them. matter of fact one of the Salesmanagers used to be on some Mazda factory race team racing 3rd gen 7's. He had one of his own that he sold about 2 years ago. He's also talked to me about how the cars are basically kit cars that everything was throw on at the port and then shipped and that Racingbeat was never really behind the project and that Mazda didn't follow Callaway's instruction for the turbo setup and computer maps. All things i've read about on here coming from a sales manager doesn't give me too much of a comfy feeling inside. But he does think however that the MS Miata will be a much better car because it'll come from Japan with everything and not have to have s*** bolted onto it at some boat yard or wherever. Only time will tell................

Yep I believe this 100% That would explain all the differences in the cars. Like the boost hoses being smaller on some and more brittle, some cars pinging at stock boost, some cars not boosting over stock, my car NEVER really hesitating, My car running 12PSI for 10's of thousands of miles no problem, some car getting 36MPG others getting 20MPG, and now my car running 15-16PSI under rapid RPM change and 6PSI during normal WOT.<O:p</O:p

Inconsistency seems to be the culprit. Did they just round up a gaggle of "day laborers" at the port to slap the kits on? Here Pedro stop digging that ditch and put this turbo Kit on, We just gots us a contract with Mazda GOD BLESS THE LOWEST BIDDER WOOHOO!
Good luck Jecky Joo Jo Ja nice knowing ya "Ya bastad!"

I still love my car and all in all it has been great but even I am on my 3rd trip to the dealer. They have kicked ass for me though and I am sure they will do so again.

Twisted Jeckel I need some information....

Tell me more about your problem and how you got it solved.

I have a 2003 Protege 5 and after 10,000kms my engine was replaced due to what my dealership is calling a bad wrist pin. They replaced the whole short block. What prompted me to bring in my Protege 5 was a rattling sound coming from the engine area. After two visits to my dealership they insisted it was the above problem.

They replaced the engine. But the same exact symptoms are appearing again and the dealership can't duplicate the rattling noise. I did some research on this Forum and found a TSB that only relates to Mazda USA and not Mazda Canada for the "Engine Noise with Cold Coolant Temperature". The same sounds are described in this TSB and are the exact same sounds I had PRIOR to the engine replacement.

I think Mazda has replaced the engine without needing to! As I am in the process of trying to sell the car I have had two people back away from the sale of my car due to the engine replacement.

I have contacted the Automobile Protection Agency here where I live and have applied to have Mazda buyback the vehicle as they are unwilling to find out about the TSB and for the fact they replaced my engine for no reason.

Let me know how you approached Mazda if you don't mind. Why did your engine go anyway?

That's really strange. I would be happier that the engine was replaced. Hey, it's a newer engine, and it should last longer!

i noticed the engine starting to buck and jerk violently only after i heard what i described as a metal on metal tinging noise which is exactly what it was. the turbo was shot. then the car would stall out on me if the RPM's weren't kept high enough. under acceleration of any kind the turbo would be making noise and the engine would be bucking like a world class bull. had a real rough idle to it as well. once the engine was torn down they found damage to the top of the #3 cylinder head.

and yes my VR6 is way smooth. i'm waiting to order a GHL catback for it. i've noticed these engines sound wicked with an exhaust. i'll be the first to say that the car is nothing near what the MSP was in term of handling but it more than makes up for it with the torquey VR6 and ride comfort. the heated seats almost make me fall asleep on my 20 minute drives to work.

dude, you are now my official hero. You have just replaced Sulu from Star Trek.

I wish you could've kicked them in their tiny nuts for me, but I understand you just wanted to get the hell out of there.

Congrats.

Good luck with the new ride man. I considered the new 200hp VR6 before I got my MSP. I may go back and get it at the end of the year, I'm still unsure about it though. If I do, it will be a only as a lease. One of my boy's just got an VW R32, nice car, I can't wait to ride in it. (headbang)

you won't want to go back to your MSP if you get a ride in the R32. have you heard the exhaust note on that thing? addictive to say the least. that and having 250 hp to all the wheels is very enticing as well. no wheel spin in corners

Twizted: GLi = SWEET car. Save up for a slightly stiffer suspension on that GLI - about 25kmiles and then stiffen it a bit, you won't be disappointed. Oh - consider Supersprint exhausts, heard one the other day and it was like ripping silk... mmmm...

Oh - I'm dixonL2 on the Vortex, you'll now find me in the A1 forum... (or the classifieds... ;) ) was an A1 guy since 1982... and an A2 guy since 1985... Dad drives a VR6 Jetta 4... VW's are a fun world.
