Mazda 2 woes

They did indeed. They traced the root cause to the PCM dying. Which in turn killed the other two. Only course of action was, of course, to replace all 3.

Good news is when it runs well, it's runs flawlessly. However, on my short trip from school back home I noticed the car was hesitating/bogging. CEL tripped and is currently on. On the bright side, I was headed to the dealership to sign off on the warantee forms anyways so I'll have them take a look at it.

*sigh* I can only hope the rest of you aren't as unfortunate as myself.

They could've forgot something somewhere. Mechanics are notoriously careless.

Or the cooked ECU could've fried something else in addition to the pump.

Or, I'd rather lean in the direction of this theory -- there could be some other thing, the root cause of the cooked ECU (because, personally, I've never heard of ECUs dying on their own accord just because they're defective -- these things aren't hand-assembled, and their reliability is probably better than other parts of the electric system).

Good luck!

good luck bro....*knock on wood* i haven't had any issues like that and im at 20,000 miles of hard driving since i bought the car in september last year

Good to hear you got your car back, but those new CEL's are a little distressing. Hope it gets figured out for you.

Popcorn, waiting, beer, more pocorn.

BTW did you ever have a boost, besides the dealer tech? I am at 18500 miles and no hickups.

Nope, never had a boost until that point.

Everything is all and well, she purrs like a kitten. CEL was just a loose pin that lost contact momentarily, or so I'm told. Been 3/4 days and about 300 kms and no problems, so I think we're fine.

So for those who have been following, everything was resolved last week. I put a few hundred kms on it and about 40 minutes ago I hear a slightly high pitched "knock" and my CEL comes on, again. So it's back to the dealer first thing I the morning.

Do these guys have any idea what's going on? If I had issues like this where I work and a customer had to bring their car back this many times, for the same issues, I'd be on real thin ice!

They've been completely transparent with me the whole time in regards to what's going on, what they're doing, etc.

I've been told the code they pulled was for cylinder #2 misfire, which is the same code as the second time (after initial failure, when it ran rough for a few seconds). They think it might be the coil so they're running some tests on it now. Here's to hoping haha.

I don't know how Mazda's diagnostic system/program works, but if there's a code for #2 misfire, I'd think the first thing to do would be to swap plugs and coils between different cylinders and watch the smooth running values (or whatever Mazda calls this) or the misfire count for all cylinders which should be able to show the misfire count for each cylinder while it's running. When I mean swap parts I mean swap plugs between #1 and #2 and swap coils between #2 and #3, clear the code, drive/run the car and check the misfire count/smooth running values to see if it changed cylinders. Depending on the result go from there. It's a pretty simple deal. Hopefully they will turn this over to their lead tech and have you on your way with a permanent fix.

That is what they did. Unfortunately they didn't have any plugs in stock, but it is a fouled plug. Probably from when the car died the first time, lmao.

No plugs for a 2 in stock? ...... wow. Hell, at least take one out of a stock unit to make sure it's just a plug.

When I went in to the dealer last week for an air filter, they said that the one they were selling me was not just the only one they had in stock, but also the first one they had ever sold. I don't think there are very many Mazda2's that have been sold in the US.

Not very many 2's in the GTA as of yet, I also go to a somewhat less busy dealer as I prefer their service over the ones in my area.

yeah i think i rember reading something from mazda saying for May they only sold something like 2,500 mazda2's and average anywhere from 1,200 to 2,500 per month across the U.S. and the mazda2 has been stateside for what a year and half / 2 years so maybe there are 30k mazda2's in the U.S

i know the first few months the 2 was out was only selling like 500 units per month , but its sales are increasing it seems

I can't even count now how many 2's I've seen in Mississauga, let alone how many I've seen out of Mississauga.
