Funny thing is a Diesel will probably tow a CR-V. Whereas a CR-V cant even tow a Smart for two. Lelolel. Good car if you are 5"7 and 150 lbs. Now who was that guy who thought his front seats creaked for 130 lbs passenger only and the dealer didnt have anyone in that weight range?
I've been excited for a lot of years now to get a diesel in my driveway just ask my wife, trouble was vw was the only viable option but still lacked an awd option outside of the pricey and bigger than I needed Touareg. I also found them just so-so to drive and I've always had a general unwillingness to own them despite their loyal diesel following. Pre CX5 I almost made the stretch to the MB glk250 because the motor was so damn good- I didn't really care so much for the vehicle overall..looks/space I was generally a seller but the diesel in that thing was a real stump pullin sweetie. Nearly 4 years later I can say I 100% made the right decision as that 42k (discounted, nearly bone stock) glk is only worth 17,8 and my 29,6 loaded CX5 comes in @13,9 per kbb trade in, 68k miles in VG condition. Add in additional maintenance cost (easily g or 2) and the extra nearly 2g Mazda gave me for old CR-V plus the extra g in taxes I didn't owe and I saved myself a sh!t ton of $...so thanks Mazda! Really looking forward to driving the diesel variant of my (still) favorite CUV not named Macan

If they get an AWD GT at dealerships by October, and priced about $2200.* above the non-diesel, and with ventilated seats, and offer a 24 month lease with good Money Factor and Residual, and it drives as well as I anticipate; then sign me up.
Sure, a number of "and": My wife wants ventilated seats like the Kia Sportage SX 2.0 Turbo offers. 24 months is a pretty easy commit to a new - to US with US tune. To answer in advance, no; I don't expect to save $2200. in fuel in 24,000 miles. I'll be paying extra for the fun of the turbo diesel torque, which is especially valued at high altitude and steep highway passes.
*I'm guessing that general pricing at volume dealers, will fall to around invoice or below, for both gas and diesel.

Vented seat and auto down all windows are the only 2 things we miss from our Kia that the CX replaced. I stress the only thing.
The rest of the car more than makes up for those not being around and we were very happy to compromise there.
I doubt the CX-5 will get a vented seat before anything else. My guess is you'll see it in the CX-9 and / or 6 before it ever gets to the CX-5, if ever.
Next major update should be the Mazda6 then Mazda3 and they might get ventilated seats.
If it is introduced, should eventually flow on to CX-9 and CX-5.
Caveat - Mazda3 might get updated first as it sells more that Mazda6 but the 3 is newer in terms of model life.

Unfortunately, over here, sales of the 3 and 6 are tanking! Only thing that's selling are CUVs. Sad!
The 6 has never sold much here but 3 & CX-5 are consistently in the top 10 vehicles sold each month.
Which Kia model and year did your '17 CX-5 replace? Thanks.
We've the Sorento AWD with 2.0T and love the pull in high altitude, mountain passes. It's torque comes on strong at about 1300 RPM. We're thinking of another Sorento, but could enjoy the slightly smaller Sportage AWD SX 2.0T -- or the CX-5.
I think a CX-5 turbo diesel would be superior drive, even without ventilated seats.

As a former VW Jetta TDI owner, I can tell you no... at least for me. The maintenance was a pain and pricey. The only thing I miss is the mileage and maybe my Fender audio sound. I love my CX-5. I do still have a '13 VW Golf (gas) but it's my husband's daily driver, not mine. I'm not sure what we'd choose to replace the Golf when it is time... possibly a Mazda 6 or 3 hatch, but it's got a long way to go before that time comes, hopefully.

Revisions to the engines injector design and injection strategy will help the 2.2 exceed the 173 horsepower it makes in the rest of the world. Drivability and NVH also will be improved over that engine, which chugs out 310 pound-feet of torque.

add me to the list of people who has never owned a Diesel but is definitely leaning towards buying one when these come out.
Was never a big VW fan but I like the idea of a diesel engine in a CUV especially since I drive quite a bit. Should make it a fun little car to drive around.
