May need help installing the WGA

Not that I am TRYING to reopen this thread but I just didn't want to post a new thread for something that relates to this thread...

BUT!!!!!

I was thinking of performing the stupid task of building an engine. I was tooling around on the intronet, and was thinking about buying an FS 2.0L block and just building a nice little engine... then again, for that kind of doh-ray-me, I could also buy an engine block to put in the Colt. I made the joke to Scott about putting a rotary in the Colt. Any thoughts?

Edit: Scott... bov? Maybe?(gossip)

True... now what do you think about putting a rotary in it? Do they even make a FWD rotary? (what I mean is, would it fit FWD style or would I need to make a RWD colt)

there have been FWD rotarys but its kinda like pissing in the wind on that one. And honestly i dont mean to offend but you are way far away from thinking about building an engine at this point there are alot of fundamentals you need to learn before your even buy any parts.

Like what....?

I know. It's the whole "thrown into the fire" idea. I also figured I might get some help here, some help there, a little dash over there. Maybe not.

Consider the idea... shot!

i understand what you were thinking but unless you have a limitless budget its not going to be fun

I know... just hoping more or less. Maybe if I win the lottery, that'd be gr-eat. If I won the lottery, I would just AutoX as my job. Just start from the ground up. God that'd be fun.

to tell you the truth building an auto-x car will teach you alot...ask muff he has learned alot since he has owned his miata.

Hellz yeah. Dive in head first and start breakin s*** (second)

EDIT: For once I'm being serious. You'll never learn as much from a book / internet / whatever as you will just tearing into something, seeing how it works, and putting it back together.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I hate making a whole new thread for something that was previously broken/breaking.

So I was on my way home from Biloxi last weekend and I finally have time to get on here and mention this. My faithful, trusty, and routine Check Engine light came on once more. So today I was filling up the tank (50 bucks) and getting a new air filter because the old one looked like a black curtain wrapped in plastic and rubber. While at AZ, I got them to check the code again praying that it wasn't the P2006... I couldn't be so lucky. So from what I recall you guys said it could be the butterfly valves in the intake mani. I asked the guy at the store (who surprisingly seemed like he knew a little bit) and he said it could be that all it needs is some throttle body cleaner or to check to see if there is a sensor that might just be blocked or not working. Any thoughts?

Or should I just be less of a cheapskate and get a brand new intake manifold?

with that much crud on the filter, it's possible the MAF could use a cleaning as well.

I am guessing that's the wee little box right behind the air filter (being that it's a mass air flow sensor). Good call on that Drew. What do you use to clean the MAF? I suppose WD40 could do the trick being that it's good for anything.

About the check engine though, do you think the best solution would be replacing the intake?

Use MAF cleaner, I'm sure you can get it at places like Autozone. I think it's just a few bucks more, but the MAF is a several hundred dollar piece, no point in just trying to go the cheap route cleaning it, not that the 'expensive' route is actually expensive, but you get my point.

let me know how using wd40 works on everything. If anything spring for Maf cleaner the exposed hot wire and parts are extremely delicate.

that would be like spraying brake cleaner into the throttle body to clean it out, right Korey? LOL

*cough* *cough* I think this smoke gave us cancer *cough*

DO NOT SPRAY WD40 ON YOUR maff!!

seriously. We find this sort of behavior very irritating. Especially in the eyes and when inhaled. We need to rinse thoroughly for 15 minutes in cool water, or get fresh air. If conditions worsen, we're to seek medical attention and call a poison control center.

In short, Maffs really dislike being sprayed with WD40.

when did i do that? and trust me brake clean is tame compared to the throttle body clean that i have. The throttle body clean burns ALOT more when you get it in you eye or on your skin

Miata timing belt, luke's house. And I have gotten brake clean in my eye before, that ******* SUCKED

Well see this is why I asked. Because I didn't know there was an actual MAF cleaner out there. Check. Maf Cleaner, NOT WD40.

As I asked before though, did the guy at AZ make any sense when he said to use throttle body cleaner to potentially break loose the butterfly valves or does that just sound wrong too?
