Martial Arts

what was that crapfest you just posted? LOL
no offense but that video mad my blood boil.

I am actually looking for a martial art to practice. I did about 4 years of silver/ golden gloves and then I joined the military and haven't done anything since. I haven't really needed to defend myself though, I don't get threatened too often.

It was in response to the earlier Karate Kid reference, in good fun, I might add. I myself AM a martial artist, who has about 16 years of experience...

I agree with the statement about a lot of martial arts being centered around competition, but if you are not fighting for your life daily, that's where the focus of a lot of schools have gone. I myself want practicality, which is why self defense is my favorite aspect of martial arts.

So last night I got to fight the us female bronze olympian from last year, how cool is that? Awesome experience, and since she'll be attending my dojo for a while, I'll hopefully get to learn something from her. She whuppped me, I nearly had her once, but she's damn flexible and twisted out. Oh, and the guy who taught class is a multiple time us champion. Yeah, I am lucky.

My daughter had her second Tournament on Friday, and Saturdy. She got first place in Kata, and 3rd in AAU-Style Sparring. She's only been to two sparring classes, and I put her in the sparring section just for the learning experience...

This morning, my daughter got her orange belt.:

I hope that my kids allow me to take such a picture as well.

I just got my Orange Belt in Japanese style JiuJitsu. And we also do Judo as well.
I've been doing it for a little over a year.
It's sooo much fun.

Cool!
Where are you at?

The jujutsu I study is Japanese in nature as well, so I like to watch other similar arts just to see differences. It seems to me that most of the the differences aren't in the techniques but in the approach to training and the mindset/philosophy taught (there are some differences in techniques, but we are all working with one human body aren't we?)

What kind of jujutsu are you studying?

I used to be huge into martial arts.

I did Japanese jujutsu (spelling ) ;p
Muai Thai
Kickboxing
Boxing
Freestyle wrestling(shoot style / Shurin ryu karate)
a little Judo.

Overall i was young..wanted to be an MMA fighter..then realised my brain is better used for something other than a punching bag.

I managed to get to the point where i was regularly tapping out the head sparring coach..and decided it was time to learn something more useful.

50 pounds and 3 years later...I wish i could go back..man the conditioning and shape i was in is something i definitely wouldnt mind getting back.
