Looking to switch to map, where can i purchase a map sensor to convert?....2003.5 mazdaspeed protege w/ mpi tuner

this is more difficult then just getting a sensor isn't it? How do you take a signal from a MAP sensor and have it output the same as a MAF as to not confuse the ECU? Or does the MPI accept different inputs?

The MPI accepts 0-5v inputs so it "could" work. I have never done this and I think it would require a TON of tuning to get it to work, IF you could. I think igdrasil in Puerto Rico tried it, you might want to hit him up and see what he came up with. I also think there was a thread on it so search for that too. The MAF is the better route to go though, IMO.

I believe Nick usually recommends against it... I'm not an MPI guy... have used it but that's it... so I just answered the part I knew :)

Talking with John @ airflow logistics, he was looking at developing a kit to get a MAP setup for the proteges that would output a MAF signal the ECU can read. A small computer chip if you will.... that reads the MAP output and converts it to something the ECU likes. Sounds like something that would compliment his AFC or other small piggyback systems. Easiest solution is to just encorperate this into an EMS though. This was a while ago, I don't know if he ever looked into it.

damn what a deal. Now he has more $ for the research! Is it 3 bar?

I have a 2.5bar setting somewhere in the Garage. I got it from Linux Racer from when he had the MPI in his car...

I use MAF and don't need it. I also gave away the FM02 clamp that he gave me. as a matter of fact I gave it back to him so if any one needs one of those then ask him
