The Jethot coating on my 1st version MAM Sleeper manifold has bubbled and is flaking off. I want to recoat it and I need to know what the maximum temperature is that it would reach before I can research my coating options.
Anybody know?
Thanks.

well, I don't know the maximum temp(but I would guess it would be about 800-900C??), but I'm using some 1050C paint right now that's been on there and hasen't bubbled for about 1200mi.

it's not expensive, only like $5 a can. and it's called VHT paint (very high tempreature, lol)

remember to cure!!

wow... sounds like they only cured it to like 300degrees F >_>

it chips like that when you don't cure.

My EGT gets to 1600 Deg F

Wow is 1600 safe? I thought the max EGT should be 1380 max?

The jethot should not be flaking like that. I head my log manifold coated before and it's holding up fine.

mine hits about 1500. so a very high temp coating is required!

I had my WHOLE assembly done. Manifold, turbo (both sides) downpipe, etc all done with ceramic... And tey told me it was good to like 2000*F. But just cause your EGT getsthat hot yor manifold will only get to like 800*-1000* if that... The turbo hot side will be hottest.

Ya mine came off in just about the exact same spot...

That pic was when it was just a cracked/bubble. Now it's a big bare patch! I got all the same assurances from MAM CS about getting it recoated etc (even though I'm a 2nd party purchaser)... said they would let me know where to ship in the next day or two. That was 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything since. **** it. I'll get it media blasted and powdercoated locally. At least I'll know where it is and that I can contact someone when I need to.

Mine flaked right there too, before I had it stripped.

So that's three. And all in the same spot! Wonder how many more there are out there.
The local powdercoating shop won't guarantee a high heat application like this so I'm still shopping around for alternatives. I really don't want to have to ship it half way across the continent to get it recoated... lol
Here's a current pic of mine.

Found someone close by, (relatively speaking) that will strip and ceramic coat my mani for $90. I'm gonna go for the "Satin Black".

If anyone happens to get theirs done here too, let Brad know that Mark from Port Alberni gave you the hook up!
they guarentee it up to 2000 degrees F? O_o, wow.

I Don't think you'll have to worry about flaking...ever. Seeing as that's about 2/3 as hot as a space shuttle gets when it re-enters the earth's atmosphere..

My manifold has been stripped, recoated (went with Satin Black) and shipped. I should have it back early next week and I'll post some pics.

i wish i had access to another mani so i could get mine rewelded and coated at the same time...i need the car!!

MspeedP5 - Do u know if your turbo mani was first coated with the Jet Hot Sterling Silver?? There basic coat is rated for 1300 degrees, and that may have been the reason for the flaking. The MC-15 coat is rated at 1700 degrees.....now if thats what u had and it still was flaking, i may have to reconsider having mine coated.
