Loud Engine

Just bought used cx-7 awd with 22000 miles on it. Seems to run realy well, handle well and the brakes are great! A little lag in power until about 3000 rpms when turbo kicks in. Anyway, the engine seems anoyingly loud. Think it has direct injection. Maybe this is the reason. It is louder than anything I have owned inside the cabin. Wife does not like it at all. I currently own a 2010 Camaro with direct injection with a V6 and it is no where near as loud as this motor. Do I just have to turn up the radio and live with it or do you think I have some kind of problem? Any response would be appreciated.

I have always said this car is a LOUD car. My wife doesn't seem to mind but after rolling in it for a couple days and then rolling in my Impala, its like the Impala is Cadillac!

I never thought my 07 was loud. Just a nice sporty sound from the engine when pushed. There is some road noise but, the trade off is superior handling and braking. All of this is of course is found out on a test drive before purchasing including magazine reviews.

Thanks folks for the replies. Happy with performance and handling, brakes. Still have a couple of days where we can still return it. Wifes daily driver and she will have to make the decision. I could probably live with the engine noise since most of the time the radio is on. It is a 2009 and in very good shape. Have read several reviews and they don't talk about engine noise. Guess we will have to wait until next winter to see how it does in the snow.

I'll disagree a hair here. When we bought ours, there were only "first drives" out, no full tests. Also, I believe the car has gotten noisier since we purchased it. I mostly blame the tires here however, there are a number of 'natural' squeaks and rattles that accompany a car that is 3-4 years old.

In some of the magazine tests done in late(r) 2007 and early 2008 I've seen where they've mentioned engine noise though.
