Ok my stock tires are bald!!! This snow we had last night, I almost killed myself.
So I went out looking for tires today, not a single place in the Westminster area had 4 of any 195/50/16. What is a good nicely priced tire I should look for? Everyone is telling me $376-$510 for all 4.
One of the places told me I could switch to the 205/40/16 and I would have no problems at all, is this true nothing at all will be thrown of, even a little.

Can you guys give me some advise, I need to pick something up before it snows again.

205's will throw off you MPG a bit but will be fine. Not to mention a nice wheel gap

205/40/16 will have a shorter sidewall than the stockers but be 10mm wider. Your ride quality will decrease and the speedo will read too fast (and you'll put more "miles" on the car)

For stock replacements I'd recommend 205/50/16, those are just a smidge taller than stock ones and you can find more tires in that size. 195/50/16 is a strange size. The stock dunlops are actually model specific, hence 5000m for mazda

did not realize that......

yos, the 205/50/16 would be the better for the car visual and mileage wise. you speedo will read about 1.7% slow, keeping the milage lower and will decrease the wheel gap by a small percent.......

Yeah, they are a rare size. Kuhmo does make a replacement tire in the 195/50/16. I got mine online at tirerack. Though the 205/50 is way more comon and fits fine.

Hmm, westminster. I know that area :) ....might have seen you.

I have Yokohama AVS-ES 100's at 205/50/16's. They ride awesome. Not sure about the snow though, has not snowed here in a while. But rain, friggin awesome. Like glue to the pavement.

the ES 100s are nice in the rain and a good summer tire as well

I got mine in 215/40/17 put on earlier this week

Uhm... The ES100's don't work at all in the snow. =) I drove 70 miles through the snow after a freak snowstorm later in the year, after putting my summers on too early. Hehe. If you're looking for snow performance, you'll want snow tires. If you want a good all season, then don't ask me, 'cause I get summers and winters. =)

Mike R I've seen you around a few times but, I was always on the clock. I wanted to just pull up and say "Hi" I would love to check out that ride of yours.

I will call around and see if I can find the 205/50 today.

The 512's are supposed to be very good. And I'll chime in a vote for the Toyo Proxes 4's, although traction during launch isn't that great when it's moderate to heavy slippery. They're great in the rain or dry, although not quite as good as the T1-S or the ES 100 would be; but those tires will suck in snow and temp's below 45 degrees, so this late in the winter you'll have to decide.
