looking for opinions on the MS6 nav system

:
MSP & MS3
I currently have an MSP with a pretty sweet stereo. It's a Pioneer AVIC D3...

It's my 1st navigation system. So far, I'm quite impressed. Some of my friends have those tom tom types and those are pitiful in comparison. In addition to nav, this unit supports bluetooth handsfree dialing and also has a pretty sweet ipod interface. (just plug the ipod in and you can control everything from the touchscreen.) you can even watch videos... whether it's a dvd or on the ipod. while driving no less! and of course it supports both xm and sirius.

needless to say... it rocks.

so why am I going on and on about my current setup? all things being relative, if I was still driving around in my 'stock' system, "upgrading" to an MS6 (with nav) would kick ass. because I'm used to my current system, however, I may very well be dissapointed. in fact... I'd be shocked if I wasn't.

that said... I can live without the bluetooth hands free deal... and watching movies in the car, while it sounds cool, just isn't all that practical. so I can live without that as well. that basically leaves the ipod and sirius. both of which I use all the time. I'm pretty sure there's an ipod adapter feature so I'd be all set there... and I know the bose headunit supports some type of satelite radio (it has a 'sat' button on it) so I guess I'd be all set there as well.

that leaves the navigation system. i've never used the MS6 version so I'm looking for feedback. it's obviously not a touchscreen (you'd need to have a wingspan like a small forward to reach it if it was) so I'm wondering how that works. I saw a little remote looking thing near the shifter of the one I was looking at. I'm guessing that's how you control it... looks cumbersome to me. but maybe I'm wrong.

assuming this unit doesn't suck... I might pick this car up. I'd just hate to take a step up in some respects... and a step down in others. Thanks for the help.

i don't have nav, so i can't comment. anyone else got any input for the man?

I have one. The unit "doesn't suck", but I'd trade a touchscreen for that little (no)joy stick thingie any day of the week.

Nice big screen, lots of setup options. Data updates will be like 5 - 10X what you would pay for Garmin or something similar (when they got you by the balls, they just love to squeeze) (cheers)

I have it.

It's a decent system and it's saved my ass plenty of times when I ended up getting lost, but I only got it because I got such a good deal on the car.

I'd just assume to save the money, pass on it and build a CarPC instead running StreetDeck or Centrafuse (see mp3car . com). There is a sweet motorized screen available now which looks very close to factory... check out the audio section on the other Mazda6 forum for more info on the "Holy Grail"...

Yeah, if I could go back and do it all over again... i'd pass on navi.. and do my own custom setup. The factori Nav works fine... but its just not as good as aftermarket.
