Looking at buying a MSP and want advice? Post here!

Yea that price is at least 3000 too high just like he said. I wouldn't go for it. You could buy a plane ticket and pay for gas to drive home anywhere in the country by buying another MSP off the forums and still have a couple thousand left compared to that.

It might be a Greddy SP2 cat back. It also doesn't have the Racing Harts on it. That alone should lower the price.

with out the wheels i wouldn't offer more than 8 TOPS
I was just getting ready to comment on the P5 wheels its rockin'...Yet in the description it says it has 17'' wheels....Wrong.

It lookpretty clean...but it has obviously ha someone modding on it and we have no idea in what form or fashion.

I just took a quick look and thought they were rx-8 wheels. The mileage is low though.

I don't think those are even P5 wheels .. I think they might be the stock wheels off an ES Protege.

Either way, meh. Definitely not worth the asking price, and I'd be cautious. Take the advice of Topher and look in the FS section for cars -- if you buy a MSP off the forums, you can pretty much find out ALL about the car's history, and that's definitely a plus.

Hey Everybody!

I'm looking to get a newer car, and found a deal on an orange 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege, with 119,000 miles, from my friend's girlfriend's Dad. He originally wanted $7,000 for it but we have worked down to $6,500-$6,200. Is this a good deal?

He claims to have taken really good care of it, and has receipts for all work done on it even oil changes. He has also always kept it in his garage over night. He's also throwing in a set of snow tires for winter (I'm in Michigan).

The only downer is he had a custom audio system that he took out before putting the car up for sale, so there's no head unit, and I'm not really sure what remains from the stock system. Also, 1st gear seems a little "sticky" and I'm a little paranoid about transmission issues, cause that's how my last car went out.

I'm not looking for something to mod out, or street race or anything. Basically I'm just looking for something reliable, good on gas, and a little sporty, that can get up and go when I need it to.

Sorry for writing so much on my first post, any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi guys, just registered today. I haave some questions because im very close to buying a 2003.5 MSP and want to clear some things up.

But first let me give you guys a little insight into why i'm here today.

Started my new job a while back after i bought my streetbike, I decided I was going to save for a new car, specifically an Evo IX RS. I was so pumped for the longest time. Tons of my friends have WRX's, SRT4's, a few STI's and 2 Evo's I can think of off the top of my head. I don't have alot of financial obligations right now, so the plan was to buy an Evo, and then dump money into it to make it very fast. The more I thought about this, the more the idea of spending $20K on a car, then immediatly spending another $10K on a bunch of parts got really distasteful. I don't want to buy evo and just drive it stock, I would have to modify it in some other way to make it unique to me. I was thinking about other cars that could suit my needs and thats when i remembered a girl I worked with previously had a spicy MSP. This is the car I want to have/build.

So i've been reading the forums and I really like what I see so far. I looked on some car websites/classifieds, and found a 2003.5 MSP 2 towns over from me with 95K on it for $5995, private seller. Figure I can pick it up for 5300 or so. Car has TBE and a bunch of audio equip. , that's it. What I envision in my head is, buying this car, and building a built motor with forged interals, along with all the other supporting mods to make good power (FMIC, SSAFC, Clutch etc.) I've worked on alot of different cars and have a bunch of friends with LOTS of experience with 4cyl turbos.

I have all of this money set aside, not really burning a hole in my pocket, but I do want to get a project going soon. This seems like it could be very affordable in my eyes. Bear in mind I was planning on spend over $20K on an Evo IX and then putting even more money into it.

So whats everyone thoughts on this? With this many miles what else should I be weary of? My horsepower goals are modest, I just want something that I can cruise in, but when I want to get up and go it does, and handles like a dream. I hear these things handle awesome as well ;)

Looking forwards to any comments/critiscm

whats the best price for msp

Im Looking to buy a msp under 100K but i just recently started looking at them and not sure what there worth .. around where i live ppl are selling them for like 12k+ since this is an msp/mazda forum i though you guys might know a bit on this.. ( canadian price plz :) ... )

2003 Black MSP

I've found a black MSP with 160,000km (100,000 miles) on it, ad says mainly highway. The asking price is 10,900 CAD which is at the moment is about 9000 USD. To buy this car, would be getting rid of my 2002 P5 with 65,000km (40,000 miles). I think that the car is a bit overpriced, but a few opinions would be a good thing. Keep in mind that cars cost a bit more in Canada than the states. I've read through the MSP Owner's Guide thread and most of those problems don't seem too bad. For a MSP with this mileage, what would be recommended to do to it if I buy it? I would love to mod it, though cash is tight as there are plans for McGill, but are there some good mods that would increase the life of this car?

if you are thinking of doing this and going big power,,. upgrade the tranny too.. you can have a bad ass little car if you do these right.. i wouldnt worry so much about the miles if you plan on tearing it down and redoing everything

All around dude, lol....as you can tell by the 52 posts I've made, I'm kinda torn between the two....but I don't think I'd even be down to do stick anymore anyway.

Any particular price you think I should try and talk it down to?

I was willing to learn stick months ago, but I would wanna suck on this car testing out my skills....my friends with stick cars are like STi's and R32's...no way I'd get test drive in those, lol

Plus, I hear a lot of bad stuff about this car...yet I get the feeling that it is fun.

not a lotta bad stuff on this car...i have the 02 P5 and i'm at 103k....nothing replaced done but reg stuff
