location of speed sensor wire

ok i found that there is a speed sensor wire to the radio. any one have a wiring diagram for the radio input of a mazdaspeed3 2007?

The Vehicle Speed sensor connects to the PCM on pins 2M and 2N, colored white/blue and brown respectively. This is assuming a manual transmission, you didn't say. I believe the speed information to the radio is over the CAN bus.

Oooooh... Look at Mr. Fancy Pants with his wiring diagram manual... lol :P

i removed the radio and didn't see any CAN bus cables. the input wire harness plug is the same as what mazda used in the BOSE miata's. i found a post that indicated pin " I " was the speed pulse wire. that would be the third post right of the main 12+ lead. i might drop by the dealer and see if they can confirm it before i tap it. oh by the way, ALL mazdaspeed3's are manual transmission. :)

Thanks for clearing up which car you have - it would be easier if it was in your profile.

where is the pcm located? any diagrams available for pin location? thanks

i need to tap into the speed sensor wire for a navigation install. any one have any ideas? thanks

Did you get the jvc deck kd-nx5000? I got the jvc deck and I've already gave up on finding the vss. I might just pick up the jvc pulse speed sensor but it's like alittle over 2 bills(hand)

ROTUS8 thanks for the info on the pins and location. i'm confused though. the pin diagram states 2M is the 02 sensor and the 2N was the MAF sensor. am i reading this wrong? thanks

no i am installing a gps that is located in my rear view mirror. a 4.5 inch LCD turns on and displays the gps map. also the side turn marker lights on the front fender have been replaced with marker/blind spot cameras and when i put my turn signal on, the LCD switches to that camera giving me full view of my blind spot. i like the system because it gives me compass/temp/ and navigation but when you look in the car, you can't tell the car has navi. portable navi units are the #1 item stolen from cars in 2006-7. also, the system has a back-up camera that displays the rear camera when put into reverse. the system is hard on the wallet! but its pretty cool though. i might have to go with the vss. we'll see. my avic pioneer ran fine without the speedpulse or the vss.

You just blew my mind!

The pins for the speed pickup I mentioned in the previous post are for the N/A ECU. I spent a long time studying the wiring diagrams for the speed ECU and PJB and there is no road speed pickup in the MS3 transmission! It is totally unclear how it knows your road speed; the only sensors for road speed I can find connects to the ABS so I guess the ABS computer detects the speed and broadcasts it on the CAN bus.

So, for your problem, you might tap into one of the ABS wheel sensors to get a road speed signal, but I don't recommend it. Tapping into anything dealing with the brakes is dangerous.

The factory NAV gets a speed signal from the instrument panel. With the factory NAV, there is a white wire going from pin 2O on the instrument cluster to the NAV DVD unit, but I think this wire is depopulated if you don't have the factory NAV. You might try to add a wire to the instrument connector to get the signal. That is the best advice I have. Good luck!

thanks rotus8 i will be tearing out the dash cluster this weekend. that makes sense that the speed pulse wire (where ever the hell it comes from!) would find its way to the speedo.

Rotus was right, it's in the instrument panel. I posted the location of the VSS a while ago. Here's a link to what I posted, there's a little picture there that shows the location and which pin to use.

The image is big... if you're using IE7 it auto shrinks the image to fit the screen. Just click on the image once and it will make it actual size which is plenty readable.

ok, i found the pin location but you never answered where to get the pin to insert in the plug. i went to radio shack and bought a serial port with pin blanks.(you have to buy the serial port to get the pin blanks) worked great! i suggest buying the tool to insert the pin. its only a couple of bucks but a b**** to install the pin wire without it. thanks ROTUS8 and KHAYDIN !
