I am looking for someone fairly local to do soem minro and major engine work on my MP3. I have had a lot of trouble with many of the local mechanic shops when it comes to wrking on my MP3. I have had many problems, even with something as simple as installing JIC coilovers. (how do u mess that up). I dont want to name names because thats not what this thread is about. I am looking for someone who can first 1. clean up my vacuum line mess 2. relocate my MAF 3. convert my Injen CAI to a short ram 3. I also am looking into getting a trans upgrade with LSD and lastly 4. I want to upgrade my internals with soem rods and pistons

Some of this stuff may sound easy and it probably is if you know what you are doing, but I dont and I would prefer to pay someone to do it. So if you know of a good reputable place that can do some work on my protege please let me know. I dont want to have to drive 10 hours to NJ to go to MPnick, but I will if it means good reliable work on my protege. Any and all help is much appreciated.

Advanced Powersports in Clinton Twp. (right where you are) has always been good to me, but I've only had exhaust work done there. They made 3" custom exhaust and did a great job with it. I highly recommend them for and turbo or exhaust work. Mark also is very knowledgable with engine management. The last time I was in there they had a custom Jeep Wrangler turbo setup that was just beautiful.

I'm interested in finding a good local shop closer to Westland/Livonia, though. Specifically I want a place that has done a rear motor mount install before so I that don't have to leave my car overnight while it's being worked on. It would be nice to have a place around here that can build an engine well, too.

I have heard mixed things about Advanced, but it sounds like they did pretty well with you. Do they do it all engine/tranny builds everything?? Can they do tuning with unichip or another from of management?? I also am in need of a rear motor mount install. I have the front, but the rear is sitting inmy closet? maybe we could get a discounted rate??

Any other places in MIchigan to do some engine work? Maybe even Ohio?
There has to be something more!

I have heard mixed stuff about Advanced, too. Bryan (asian6er) was the one that recommended them to me for exhaust stuff. I'm hesitant to take my car there for an engine mount, though, since they aren't consistant with time.

I talked to them for hours about engine tuning and they know their stuff. Mark has worked very closely with the guys that made the SplitSecond units and seemed to know Emanage and a few other setups very well. Of course, it all comes down to the combination of the car and the computer.

What about Godspeed in Novi?

The just merged with another shop and moved to Farmington Hills near Grand River and 10 Mile. I am going to see if they have time to put my rear mount in sometime soon.

I had heard about that some time ago, but never really knew where the new shop would be. I also heard that there was going to be 2 seperate shops.

As far as work, a buddy of mine has taken his WRX there and had thousands and thousands of dollars invested into it. For his setup, hes not had many problems with it, but you have to realize how custom it is. Hes currently pushing about 650 whp at about 30 lbs of boost, so things are bound to happen.

You talking about Brian's car (I think that was his name) the silver WRX at the last drive ? That thing was hella fast !!!!

In troy there is Buzz auto.
I know the work with emanage, greddy, they have dyno and they do custom job of any sorts.
There 2 young guys and they seem very nice.
I had my radio, tint, exhaust put on there.

About the unichip, there is a shop that is legally listed as tuner about 4 hours from detroit.
the guy seems really knowledgeable and this is the website. I wanted to go there for the unichip tuning. He responds to email fast too.

I did not want to name names, but I have had the worst experience at Buzz-Off. I went to them to get my coilovers installed. They charged me $300 and put my camber plates in sideways???? I knew something was up right away. I had to drive back the next day, I was pissed. I thought if they cant install coilovers they cant do s***.

This Godspeed place sounds pretty promising. Do they have that much experience with Proteges???

Thanks for the input!

Names are ok.
No worries.

I know for a fact that one of the guys of

Forward Motion Motorsport. http://www.fm-motorsport.com/

had an MSP and it was on the forum too.

His email was:

Da: Sean <seang@fm-motorsport.com>

Hi Federico,

I noticed you recently posted on the Mazda forums regarding your MSP
(my name on the forum is 007sharky). Welcome! I am a proud owner of a
2003 MSP and have several friends that own them as well. Just wanted
to let you know that if you would like any performance upgrades,
window tint, or need addtional advice outside of the forum, please
feel free to contact me. I am affiliated with a local performance
shop called Forward Motion Motorsport in Southeast Michigan (Downriver
area). Visit the website at fm-motorsport.com or drop me a line
anytime if you have questions. I also have some great Mazda dealer
contacts as well and can tell you about some of the upgrades we
already have done on the MSP's.

Talk to you soon,

Sean

Yeah, I used to see an MSP at Sterling Mazda in Sterling Heights all the time that had been worked on by Godspeed.

You could always wait till it warms up and we have another install meet. :D

An install meet sounds good to me ! I am starting to pile up stuff to go on the car. Injen, Intake manifold, valve cover, Pirana coolant can, rear strut bar, and hopefully some freshly powdercoated wheels........

Since Kevin doesn't have a Mazda anymore, I'll probably end up hosting it.

Look for a post when the weather warms up.
