Liftgate won't operate unless car is turned off / in accessory mode

Thanks for all the helpful tips! I have the 2018 and couldnt open the liftgate from inside the car (the doors must have been locked) only happened once....thought it was a fluke lol. Thanks again for all the helpful tips!!(yippy)

Just don't let her wait too long whilst your in the CX-5 trying to press the tailgate button :)

I did it this morning. The button is a bit confusing. I have to push either bottom or top of the button to activate but it seems backwards? Push the bottom to open, top to close. The button doesn’t look like a toggle.

I finally noticed the breathing effect as well. Interesting.

Resembles power folding mirrors button in terms of use

Oooh, there's also a request switch on the back so that you can grab your stuff from the back, close the liftgate and lock the doors without pulling out the fob. When closed, the liftgate switch is centred above the license plate and the request switch is at the far right.

To lock
To lock the doors and the liftgate, press the request switch and the hazard warning lights will flash once. A beep sound will be heard once.

I'm enjoying finding all of these little features.

Sounds like the 18 is different from the 17 in that respect.

My U.S. 2017 GT has a liftgate request switch. From the manual p. 3-12: "The request switch on the liftgate can only be used to lock all doors and the liftgate."

Also, as far as I can tell, the interior liftgate button, on the left lower dash, is a simple momentary pushbutton.

I’m going to check this out tomorrow. My ‘17 doesn’t have this feature as I know of. Perhaps it was added later in the cycle as part of CQI?

Here's the excerpt from the 2018 manual.

That's identical to the 17 manual. But your verbal description didn't resemble my car.
There's only the one switch in the back [just right of center].

It's not a toggle. It's a plain old momentary contact. Push to open when closed. Push to close when open. It's a slightly long push [0.5 sec?].

Okay now I understand. I was pushing the button but nothing happened the first couple of times. I guess I finally held it in long enough to finally get it to work.

As for the liftgate, I’m sure I only have the pad. But I will verify in the morning.

Maybe some other owners can confirm usage and if a normal press is enough, could be an issue with yours perhaps
