Lifetime Tranny Fluid?

Ok I know this has probably beaten to death like most everything has but I'm curious. Does anyone that has the "sealed tranny" with lifetime fluid have a high mileage car that hasn't changed the fluid and if you do have you had any problems? I know that @ 90% of all mechanichs don't believe in lifetime fluid. Personally I have my doubts also but I haven't kept up with car technology and it's been a long time since I have wrenched (remember Rambler/ American motors?).

I had 106k miles on my 2015 cx5. Was shifting just fine.

I think somebody had at least 180k miles on theirs in the high mileage thread. Never touched the transmission.

The fluid may be deemed lifetime but the transmission isn’t actually sealed on these vehicles. Pan has a drain plug, transmission has a little dipstick and a fill hole.

"lifetime" is a relative term...

My 2014 owners manual or any later MAZDA manual I've seen NEVER mentioned a lifetime ATF. I think that term is some term, owners dreamed up since there is no mention of a change interval in the manual. If it isn't leaking and is shifting properly then don't spend money or time to check it at the dealer level. If it make me feel better, then do it myself OR Pay the mechanic to do it. Such a fuss over this make me want to get a life. Ed

Its a term that came from the manufacturer. Ask Mazda USA what the change interval should be for the ATF and they’ll tell you it’s good for the life of the transmission.

My old 05 Focus had a hilarious note in the owners manual. It had a lifetime* air filter for the engine.

*120000 miles. That was literally how lifetime was defined, that exact footnote on the very same page lol.
