2001 Mazda protege
This is my first Mazda I've owned. Picked it up about a month ago and started fixing it up. Currently the speed doesn't work for some reason and the miles stopped at 146,xxx. Car is a 2001 es, 5spd. So far I've replaced the front wheel barrings ,tie rods,brakes and rotors. Im waiting on my struts to come in ,hopefully this week. Just got Kyb,nothing to fancy. Also put some skunk2 coil overs on it. My plans for the build will be to have a fast daily driver. I would like to be in the mid to high 13s in the 1/4. At the end of this month i will be purchasing forged internals and a turbo kit to get this moving! I love learning to work on stuff. Im no mechanic by far but I figure when i get another engine if i take it apart I should be.able to put the new parts in to save some money on labor. As far as a part list Im planning on using K1 rods, wiseco pistons , Arp head and main studs and bore it apart.20. Also will be going either with a 2.5 or 3" full exhaust. Probably go with obx ud pully and a aem intake to replaced the diy 1 thats in there now along with a msp flashed ecu . If Im missing anything feel free to chime in because this is the 1st time I've ever done anything like this and would like to do it the right way!! Hopefully i can pull this off before summers over but I just got laid off so we will see. Here is a pic of the car when i got it. (was 3 diff colors). I want to paint the callers a diff color and figure out what to do with the rim bc.they painted em and its chipping bad.

Here it is now. For some reason it looks 2 diff.colors but its really not lol.

Hopefully when i go to pull a part this Saturday i can find a engine to start the process! Ill hit all of em in the area if needed!!
 
where in ohio are you? there are plenty of 1.8s and 2.0 fs. here in toledo. 1.8s are stronger for boost and have the same head iirc.
 
Im in ravenna 44266 ( bout 15 min east of akron). Will a 1.8 bolt right up? Why are they better? Can u get me some prices of the 1.8 & 2.0s when ever u have a min?
 
Got my struts finally. Just went with kyb for the time bring. Here is my old ones

And i found this wire just hanging with a dummy plug in it? Its coming out of a box attached to the intake tube. Any ideas where it goes or what it does? I failed echeck on the NO part. Limit is 600 and i was at 1500+

That is the intake temp sensor. It should be inside the intake tube. There should be a little rubber grommet on your intake tube with a hole for it to fit into.
 
Ill check for it. Is it important? Its prob not the reason for the failed echeck if its just a temp sensor huh..
 
Gravity? Lol . Also in the market for an Aem filter for the intake and some fog deletes and i need an emblem so i can make a "evil" M
 
Ill think about it lol. Forgot to mention Im lookin for head and tail lights as well as an exhaust and header. Can't wait.for next month so i can start placing orders!! Having a hard time finding a complete exhaust.
 
subbing, corksport makes a great stainless steel exhaust system for our cars but a little on the pricey side.
 
just go to an exhaust shop, they will make you a full exhaust for probably close to 250 maybe a little more or less
 
Sweet, i figured shops would be more than an aftermarket place. 2.5" Im thinking is a good size. Is obx pretty much the only place that makes a header for us?
 
Subbed to a good start and I recommend the exhaust shop for header back 2.5" just don't buy a cheap muffler.. I have a vibrant and sounds amazing I've also ran a wize in the past on a different make and it had a real nice deep tone
 
Ill be calling around this week for sure. I am going to go with a 4-2-1. Also was reading a bit and am probably going to go with Doc B oil pump. What size injectors do you guys recommend, 440s or 550s? I think i dawg somewhere that wrx injectors will fit our cars? Was thinking of msd coils as well. Thoughts on that? My plans are to be somewhere around 250-270hp after its all said and done. Still waiting on some quotes for rods and piston. I found this site that sells a "kit" what do you think?
