That's not a bad idea, what additional parts would you need to make it a franken-ZE? It might work out cheaper that way (provided there's nothing seriously wrong with the DE).

And I've been thinking about the motor lately. Wes asked if I would sell him my DE and he would just rebuild it. Then I got to thinking, well why don't I just do that, derr? (Sorry Wes, but thanks for the idea. I'll get you some Wendy's so we're still cool. Cool?)

But I've never built a motor before so it's a little intimidating. And while cost is an issue, I'll have about $1000 a month for funding but am in no huge rush to have my P6 back. Of course I say that now while it's winter but when spring hits I'm going to be pissed I don't have a toy. haha

Yeah, we coo. Honestly with all the stuff about my truck going on, I forgot, lol. Just get the DE checked out, make sure it's straight, and then I say build it! We'll both have build KL's and pocket protectors and we will be awesome. Take your time, do the research, and do it right the first time, don't get impatient that you don't have a toy and then have to do 4 more swaps to get it right, ya know? Ride your bike or something in the spring, ya tub 'o lard. :p

So Phen asked Rob what he thought about the steering rack and he said he thinks the 91 Protege will be the best best. According to RockAuto it's $217 + shipping. So I might order one next week and try to bolt it in. I'd rather not go a custom route with welding tie rods on and such, but if it means I can go with a manual rack then I'll go for it. I just hope Josh has some welding gas leftover from Wes' truck. heh-heh

But the DE in the garage has 176k miles on it and a blown head gasket. I would send the heads and block out to be refinished but don't know any good local shops I can trust. (No way is it going to Big3Racing). Then I was thinking I might as well replace the pistons, valves and cams while the block and heads are being refinished. So what do you guys think? Should I rebuild the DE or just buy a ZE? I'm not going for crazy power and am always on the fence about boosting it. It will be for road course track days at Mid-Ohio, BeaveRun and the like, not for drag racing. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated. (2thumbs)

Hell dude, I told you that when you first got the Milly!

rebuild the de, and go with a supercharger. i know im a bit biased but i think its a good option. it would be a bit of boost to make you smile when you floor it, but it would still keep the car functional for its purpose. plus its not very difficult or expensive to set up...

if the block is good just build it with some quality parts so in the future if you want to boost or supercharge it you don't have to worry about throwing a rod.

I think some 10.5-11:1 pistons, port some DE heads, Colt 218s, late model DE valvetrain with some interprep springs, MS PNP, and call it a day. Enjoy your 200-220whp KL..

If you are thinking of boosting..just freshen up the DE, get some valve springs, cams, and throw 5 psi through it via a turbo kit and MS PNP..would be a nice 250-260whp. No need to build for a low psi..

B3R wouldn't do it anyway, they would send it somewhere to be done. I say rebuild it with some 12:1 pistons, headers, maybe cams, MS or other ECU and don't worry about boost issues. Once you can put down times like DaveB or better then either go boost or get a different car

granted you'll have to rebuild with lower compression if you boost it but that'll more than 1 year (unless you have the car completely built by April and run every possible event of the year). I'll help you rebuild it, it won't be any harder than the work we did on the KL and I get more credit towards my intake...

My thoughts exactly. I should've learn to drive it on the track with the FS-DE and popped it. Then the KL swap. Then add more powa. I think I'll stick with N/A for a couple years while working on my drivers mod.

But rebuilding the DE in the garage is going to be quite a bit more than I expected. So I'm leaning towards just buying a ZE and and swapping the valve retainers with DE ones. Possibly cams if I have the extra scratch. I keep forgetting I need the seats, harnesses and roll bar too.

The friction gear on the cams provides tension between the cams while they mesh, so that you get a much quieter operation of the cams meshing. I actually have removed them off of my cores that I am having re-done to reduce the rotating mass some. I don't much care if they are loud, lol. Everything about my build is loud, lol.

That's cool, thanks for the info :)

Yeah, thanks for the info John. I didn't know either. I'll probably run my ZE without them as well if they aren't necessary.

It is not something that more than a handful of people have done, and I have not heard them first-hand without the friction gear..but Jerry Sica at PRM told me about doing this if I didn't mind the extra noise..personally, if you are not beefing up the valvetrain and lightening it..I would not bother doing this.

Yay for Chris (03zoomzoom) for emailing me the pinouts for the 1995 KL47 ECU.

Now I've just got to try to make sense of this nonsense...

Got one of these for the 93/94 MX6 on hand? I'm right in the middle of finding my wires for Injector rails, disty plugs. Looking, but the rest of the internet wants me deaded....

Well I got those from my friend, Chris (03zoomzoom) and he pulled some strings with the dealership where he worked to get me them and he no longer works there. But you can send him a pleading PM and see if he still has access to some diagrams.

The only one's I have are for Milly's and OBD2... Sorry, mate.

edit- I'm sitting here at the computer playing my bass, look over and see my Haynes manual for the PGT, MX-6 and 626 on my book shelf staring at me. heh-heh. I'm sure your local Autozone has one on the shelf and they have all the wiring diagrams in the back from 93-01. :)

triple edit- or you can just let me know which wires you need and I'll can look them up. Or take pics and post them.
