LCD TV and Direct TV help?

composite, s-video, component - since your display is digital you're not going to notice much of a different at all between those 3 no matter how expensive your cable is. Getting a digital video connection to your LCD is the key - which means either DVI-D or HDMI, neither of which your cable box has. Get a new cable box.

Tonight I got a component cable for the DVD player- I can tell a difference but it's still a bit pixelated... Also got an S-video for the Direct TV box- not much different. So this will just have to hold us off until we get an HD box for the TV and HD DVD player for the dvd portion.

My TV only has one HDMI/DVI input. If I have an HD connection to the cable box AND an HD connection to the DVD player- how will it work?

what kind of dvd player you have? you shouldnt have a pixelated picture. either your tv sucks, or something is wrong with it, the cables you got suck, or the dvd player sucks. try playing around with the settings. you need to tweak it, like you would your car system or an engine management system. same thing

I tried a different DVD (a movie this time) and it looked pretty darn good. I'm just being too picky at this point. It's my first LCD so I'm still getting used to it.

Wierd thing about the cable is that the picture really looks to have imporved on certain channels and programs. The local channels don't look too great but the cable ones look a lot better than when using the RCA.

One funny note:

A kid that worked at Best Buy was trying ot tell me that Co-ax would be my best bet and would make cable look A LOT better than S-video. He was like "Ya, if you can't go HDI or component- go with the co-ax it will give you digital picture".... I wasn't so sure about that so I went and talked to another guy. He confirmed that co-ax would be my worst bet.

I did however see that the HD DirectTV boxes were only $100. So that's what I'll be doing to end this problem once and forever.

Pixelation is a result of a bad satellite feed, not hardware. What is your satellite signal strength percentage? Is it a multisat? How many LNBs? Are you getting pixelation only on certain channels?

Bad satellite feed? with satellite you either get the picture or you don't, there's no variance in quality
