K&N Typhoon CAI dyno

Just found this dyno on the K&N Typhoon CAI for a stock Focus ZX3 in the April issue of Import Racer! magazine. Not a particular car we should get all crazy about, but it does have similar whp output compare to our NA Proteges....unfortunately. And surprisingly, the K&N CAI did pretty well.

The green band is stock, the red band is after adding the K&N CAI, while the blue band is after the CAI & the "Thermal Research & Development" cat-back exhaust. The K&N Typhoon did lifted the entire band higher as advertised, but from adding 1-3 horses rather than the optimistic "7-10 hp". But still pretty good nonetheless. Also, the K&N Typhoon for the Focus is a shorter, non-convertable design (probably due to the engine bay layout) unlike the one for the Proteges, and sits in the engine bay sort of like a SRI. So performance on the Protege maybe slightly better if you have the CAI layout all the way to the fender well as the air there is a bit colder.

So there you go. Some info for you to chew on if you are looking for a CAI. K&N is a bit pricey than the Injen (around $260~), but heard the build quality is quite a bit better. After searching around and digging up old posts for info, I decided to give it a try. (thumb)

good to see some dyno numbers from it, and those numbers are whp, so the 3whp gain could be bloated up to say it was a 5-7hp at the crank for advertising and such. Id expect maybe 1-2 more whp on our cars as it is a true CAI and not an sri but your also paying more than for an injen or aem
