Just picked up a CX-9

Just picked up a silver '10 CX-9 GT with Moonroof/Bose. This is my first Mazda and first SUV and I'm really loving how it drives. After we had our second son, I decided to get rid of my WRX in favor of something with a little more room and safety. Definitely a giant step up in comfort but I do miss those WOT blast up on ramps and effortless power going up big hills (I5/grapevine).

We actually never considered a Mazda. After owning three Hondas, a Toyota, and a Subaru, we were looking at either getting a Highlander or Pilot, so we test drove those two and was left really unimpressed. I was actually drawn in to the Mazda dealership by some incentives. We test drove the CX-9 and felt it had a good blend of roominess, comfort, and power. We ended up signing the papers a few hours later.

I noticed the suspension is firm on the GT, it still felt softer than the stock suspension on my 04 Honda Accord EX-V6. So that was no big deal for us. One thing I wasn't too happy about was the LATCH points on the middle row. I have two Britax car seats and I have a hard time locking the anchor points in. They only snap in when I turn the buckles around, which twist the belts around. I also miss not have the LATCH points on the third row but it's not a big deal. Hopefully the CX-9 will be as reliable as my other cars have been.

Also from a Subaru

I also moved to the CX-9 from a Subaru. Mine was a Legacy GT wagon. Definitely miss the power of the turbo but the Mazda is a nice compromise given the upgrade in size. I still haven't gotten used to the death trap blind spots relative to the Subaru which had great visibility all around. I also miss the Subaru's relatively good fuel economy but not its need for premium.

You can get car seats in the 3rd row no problem with the belts. You don't get the top tether but I'm not sure what the top tether really gets you (even though I always use it when available).

Sounds good, I sat in the 2010 model at the Auto Show, not huge changes, but considerable. Enjoy and welcome!
