Just installed my TRZ Dogbone Poly!!

Well, the drive in this morning wasn't too bad; still vibing though...
Using the A/C definitely makes me think twice about using this mount. But as you say, the performance is great... Almost instant throttle response.

I keep thinking since I'll start autocrossing this car next year, that there is no way that I'll be going back to the stock mount. Last Wednesday I went to the local drag strip (I had the stock mount then) and on my first launch I goofed it up and wheel hopped all of first gear...threw off my alignment.
I wasn't expecting the surface to be so sticky... Anyway, I learned not to do that again...

But with going to the drag strip once a month and autocrossing twice a month...the stock mount won't due... I used to hear thumps while shifting...I guess that was the engine mount at its travel limit... With the new solid mount...its solid...no thumps.

So, for daily driving comfort it kind of sucks...but performance aspect, its awesome... I guess its just a trade off I must deal with...

Good stuff man. I know that dealing with it on a day to day basis needs some getting used to. But as you mentioned, the performacnce aspect is what most of us are after in the long run. If you want, you can make a 30 minute swap happen if you were to go on a long road trip. lol

I had an awr 77 mount and didn't like the vibrations much from the start. as soon as i started the car i didn't like it. People said the vibrations were very little, would go away, you'll get use to it.. etc.. I kept it for a few months and im proud to say i went back to the stock mount a weeks ago.. and I'm glad i did. Only then did I realize how bad the vibrations were and how good the car feels without it...its crisp and clean and brings back some of the "luxury" into the drive...IMO so what that the engine rocks more with the stock mount .. Im not 18 and i don't race all over the city yet I still drive my car hard. The mount was the biggest waste of money out of all the mods ive done. Unless you drag race your car at the track often then its not worth the vibrations.. poeple say they are minimal and thats just bulls*** IMO.. no offense to anyone with a mount thats happy with it.. I just wanna let anyone know with a ms3 thats thinking about a mount that if you like how smooth the car drives now then the vibrations will probably bother you cuz the performance benifits are minimal over the stock mount with normal daily driving.

I have to totally agree!!! I bought the mount because everyone said the vibrations were minimal...but its not so. I loved the smoothness of the car...thats why I bought a "new" car... Though, since I do drag race it once a month and autocross a couple of times a month too...then the mount comes in useful...

My first time drag racing with this car (with stock mount) I wheel hopped all the way through first. BTW, its my first time driving a FWD car; I've always owned a RWD car. Anyway, the next morning I noticed my steering wheel was crooked; I lost my alignment. The following morning I had to get it fixed. Since then I have learned how to launch the car smoothly, but I like the extra protection of that the mount gives me in not throwing off my alignment again since it drastically reduces wheel hop.

But damn vibrations is killing my "new" car joy... :(

I totally agree with Engineer420, it overkill and not needed with a daily driver...

autoxracer, you should try out the corksport mount inserts. From what I've heard these are the perfect compromise for somebody looking to take up the slop in the engine movement while not having excessive vibes like the other mounts. I have some on order, should be here sometime next week and I'll get them put in probably next weekend.

Let me know how the insert works out!!

I had energy suspension poly motor mount inserts on my previous car (RSX Type-S), and have to say that the vibrations were stronger with those inserts than with the 88 AWR mount on the MS3. Ofcourse I'm comparing two different cars so I can't say that this will hold entirely true (the RSX I believe had 4 mounts as apposed to 3, and the inserts were inserted into 2 of these mounts). With the inserts, the vibes were greatly reduced after about a week of break in (the change was so gradual that its difficult to determine when exactly they "broke in").

The 88 duro AWR rear mount from protege garage reduces the engine's tendency to rock back and forth between full throttle shifts, and the vibrations are near unnoticable after they break in. I've posted this before- my passenger never noticed a difference until I mentioned it to her. And that was before break in. I have only heard problems of the 70 duro mount tearing assuming that its too soft. As long as the 88 is installed correctly, you'll only get a noticable vibration when disengaging the clutch and heading off in first gear, then some small vibes anytime you're around the 3k rpm range. After breaking the mount in, the roll into first and the vibes accelerating are practically unnoticable, or maybe I've gotten use to them because I don't find them as being any kind of pain. You'll still exhibit vibes decelerating in the 3k range, but nothing that will rattle anything loose in the cabin or make you feel like re-checking your alignment. Just my two cents.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd try the inserts being that they are cheaper, and I was content with them in the past. But I don't see any issues with the 88 AWR. Had the mount for atleast 2k miles.

Word of caution though, according to the service manual you have to torque the frame bolt first and then the tranny/engine bolt second to avoid any vibrations...

so is it the horizontal bolt that gets torqued first or the vertical?

btw, i have a derlin...and you think you have vibs. it sounds like im rockin to 12" subs in the trunk lol

there are problems with the 88 duro AWR mounts too. mine was ripped when i removed it to put the TRZ mount in. the 70 duro had no chance. it tore in 2 weeks !

So, after driving with the TRZ Poly for at least 1,000 miles, I have to say that I'm used to the vibes. Yes, they are still there; every time I start the car, turn on the A/C, or drive in the +4K rpm range...

The mount will fully break in at about 200-500 miles or so. It just needs a lot of stop and go conditions and hard acceleration pulls/shifting.

Overall, I'm still not too happy with the vibes, but I can live with it for the performance gain... If I was not tracking my car, then I would have gone with a softer mount like the inserts or AWR 88s...

I just put it in an hour ago. THIS IS THE WAY THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN! The vibrations? hardly even noticeable and I really tend to notice these things so thats the main reason I went with this. I didn't want vibes and if someone installed these in your car without telling you, you'd probably never even know.

Shifting is much crisper, easier to find the gears. Engine movement is way down from what it was, makes using the clutch a LOT easier than stock.

For $35 I am completely satisfied and recommend this cheap mod to everyone.

K so Im sold on the inserts but I have a quick question. Im on Corksports website and Im looking at their description and it says the following:

"The CorkSport motor mount inserts help stabilize the stock rubber mount by filling the open space with a urethane insert to limit movement and give the car the direct feel when you accelerate. Fits all models except Mazdaspeed 3/Axela"

But you guys are using them on Speed 3's right? Am I looking at the wrong product? Where did you get yours Fritch?

I think I may be bringing this thread back to life but...I installed my TRZ poly yesterday and the vibes are definately noticeable during start up, take off in first and the 3k range as stated previously in this thread. I'm going to give it about 1000km (400 miles or so) and see if it improves or I can deal with it. If I'm still not crazy about the MM, I'm going to try the CS inserts and sell my TRZ mount. Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

The start up vibe will never go away; it will smooth out slightly. Actually, thats the only vibe that I actually enjoy... (2thumbs)
The take-off vibe is still there, you just need to accelerate the car to or above 1.5K RPM and you won't feel it. Regarding the 2.5K RPM MAJOR vibe during decel is still not gone and I HATE that one.

One important thing about breaking in this motor mount is that you have to load it. By load, I mean you have to accelerate hard and make the motor mount work to break it in. I drove through traffic my first 500 miles and I needed more like 1000-1500 miles to break-in mine; there is a lot of highway driving in Florida.

Definitely give it time...I think its more a matter of getting used to it. But the mount will soften up slightly; won't be as harsh as when its new.

But if you don't plan to race your car (autocross, drag race, or track), you really don't need such a hard mount. But you have to admit the performance improvement of the motor mount is amazing!!!!

Let us know how you like it and what your opinions are...

ya, good plan. i knew i didn't like added vibe at all, so i went right to the corksports, but if you're willing to see if you can handle the vibe, then definitely drive this for a while and see how it goes. the more vibe, the more it's helping you, but i wasn't looking for a kick in the arse...just a gentle shove in the right direction...;)

Thanks for the feedback guyz...the performance aspect of this "mod" is most definitely there. Throttle response is a big improvement as well as shifting (I have TWM bushings en route and will install those shortly). When you hop on the throttle the car responds a lot quicker and wheel hop/spin is greatly reduced. If combination of the mount getting worked in, vibes settling down and me getting used to it occur as others state then I should be able to deal with it. If not I can always get CS inserts and sell my TRZ to someone who would like it.

"Sacrilicious" - you like your CS inserts? Improvement over stock? Performance improvements?

ya, there was definitely an improvement over stock. clutch engagement has definitely improved and become more smooth. i'm not sure how to compare it with the TRZ, though, since i obviously have no experience to use, but i can definitely tell you that the CS inserts gave a noticeable improvement over stock without adding vibe.
