Just installed my TRZ Dogbone Poly!!

I just installed my TRZ Dogbone Poly engine mount this morning.
It was the easiest install I have ever done...other than upgrading a shift knob... (lol2)

Literally, jack up the car, remove two bolts, wiggle out the OEM engine mount out by rocking the engine forward (this hands) and install the Dogbone. Thats it!!!!

Word of caution though, according to the service manual you have to torque the frame bolt first and then the tranny/engine bolt second to avoid any vibrations...

Man, the OEM engine mount is SOFT!!!! I can see why the engine rocks so much!!!

When I started the car to move it back into the garage it vibed like crazy, I thought I was in a go-cart or race car... Its supposed to break in after a few miles... We'll see!!

I'm going out to test drive it now!!!!

Looks to me like a motor mount insert would fit into that soft mount and cure alot of the issues without haveing to replace the entire mount. I just dont think anyone has made one yet. BTW a motormount insert would press into the open area of the oem mount making it like a solid one but not quite so that it would still allow some play so that the car wont shake. energy suspension made a kit like that for my old GTI i had and it works great. i wonder if they are making one soon for our cars??

corksport makes inserts for the mount, only $35 too

Well, I've driven approximately 100 miles, though most of those miles are highway...I live in Florida.

Anyway, the vibes have reduced significantly though there are still lots of vibration during start up, decelerating, and A/C usage. Most of the vibration is felt though the seats. My girlfriend feels it too.

I have mixed feelings about this mod. I love the way the clutch engages now, crisp and instant...there is no dampening. Shifting has also improved. When you accelerate the car is just goes...again, no dampening. My only dislike is the vibes!! My car only has 2K miles and I feel like I'm driving an older car. I liked the smoothness the car had prior to the Dogbone.

I guess I'll give it a few more miles. I read a thread that it keeps getting smoother with time... Though I think its just people getting used to the vibes over time.

I'm going to call Protege Garage tomorrow and see what they have to say/recommend. I might down-grade to the AWR 88 version since I've heard its a milder mount.

This is normal for teh TRZ, It'll calm down a little and you will get used to it a little. I've had it on for about 3k miles and it definately feels less harsh. I have to change my oil again, so I'm going to check and make sure everything is still nicely snug.

BTW, don't take this the wrong way, but the spelling is damp, dampen, damper, damping. Sorry, just one of my pet peeves.

Thats OK, I always try to get correct spelling on things (pet peeve)... I just relied on the spell checker too much this time around... lol

If you want stock like vibes (or lack thereof) but still want reduced engine movement and wheel hop you might give the corksport inserts a shot. I am happy with them. Not for all out performance like what you got, but the tradeoff is worth it to me.

I'm going to give them a little longer... Meanwhile I will give them a little abuse or should I appropriately say flex them a little...which highway driving is not doing...

Man, I turned on the A/C this afternoon and I thought my car was going to vibe apart... LOL If I can get the A/C to function without feeling so much vibes...then I'll keep them and live with the driving vibes...

Only time will tell... Forum members keep telling me to give them time that it will soften up...

Yeah, I had a SLIGHT increase in vibes with the AC on when I first got the mounts. Either it has gone away now or I am used to it. A/C is definitely needed here in FL though, heh.

Try the delrin mount ;)

Polyurethane is for wussies!!

jk, but seriously though, after driving it for a bit you will A) get used to the vibs and B) they will start to dissappear so no worries, and I promise if you go back to your stock mount you'll miss the stiffer mount. I've switched back and forth like 5 or 6 times now.

i have the derlin and maybe im use to it, but i dont really notice it anymore.

hey laloosh, that your Speed3 in your sig?

I'm diggin those wheels...looks sexy...

Wanna "give'em" up? I'll take them off your hands for free.99!!! (spin)

Back on topic,

I have the delrin myself, and the vibes are just another way of your car talking to you... I'm not sure what yours is telling you, but mine for some odd reason keeps saying..... brrrrrmmmm.....like a vibrating text or something..lol
When you hammer the throttle, it'll shove you into the seat. Pretty sweet I tell ya.

So how you liking the Dog bone now that its been a couple days?

lol yea ill give you the wheel for free(loser)(alright) lol j/k. Every1 seems to like these wheels, they're not all that expensive if you know where to look.

just google evo enkei 5, i dont remember where i got them from but it wasnt expensive at all.

oh, thanks!.... I figured they were rare wheels or something...19s? looks it. but my eyeballs tend to lie to me from time to time...

Well, the drive in this morning wasn't too bad; still vibing though...
Using the A/C definitely makes me think twice about using this mount. But as you say, the performance is great... Almost instant throttle response.

I keep thinking since I'll start autocrossing this car next year, that there is no way that I'll be going back to the stock mount. Last Wednesday I went to the local drag strip (I had the stock mount then) and on my first launch I goofed it up and wheel hopped all of first gear...threw off my alignment.
I wasn't expecting the surface to be so sticky... Anyway, I learned not to do that again...

But with going to the drag strip once a month and autocrossing twice a month...the stock mount won't due... I used to hear thumps while shifting...I guess that was the engine mount at its travel limit... With the new solid mount...its solid...no thumps.

So, for daily driving comfort it kind of sucks...but performance aspect, its awesome... I guess its just a trade off I must deal with...
