JosueP5's '03 Protege5 Build Thread.

And I'm keeping it for the Milly, bitches. lulz

Josh, if you need to build a box we can do it here at my work. We've got lot's of saws and s***. And we've got some left over 1/4" plexiglass too.

My plan is to put 2-10" subs in the spare tire well in the back of the wagon and use the plexiglass that Evans has laying around, taking the kenwood out of Spicy and replace the Bose. I have my OEM Leather to use on it as will.

^^^ Baller! Yeah, Marlon. We can definitely build something some weekend.

Sorry for the thread jack, GUY!

So wait....speakers and tweeters in the front doors, but the crossovers all the way back in the hatch??

Yeah, amp and crossovers installed in the hatch, and if you ever wanted to run active crossovers you are ready. And 4 channel wires are awesome, so only one to run! (per side) :D

Just placed my order at Sonic Electronix too.

Sub box - $20
Autotek 6.5 component set - $35
Autotek 6.5 two ways - $30
Universal bass knob - $14

It was like, $114 total with shipping...not bad at all!! Might not be the highest name brand stuff, but Autotek has been around for years and years, and my brother has 2 of the same component sets in his TBSS and they sound pretty good. I think I'll have the rear 2 speakers ran off the radio, the front component set off the amp, and the 2 Polk tweeters off the radio as well. I don't have factory tweeters in those little triangle pieces, so these Autotek tweeters should fit in there nicely. And we might as well hook up the Polks if I'm going to leave them in there to fill those holes. LOL

Heading back home next weekend to have my audio guy install it all. Stay tuned!

MEJICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(sorry, couldn't resist.....Hi Josh :) )
pm if you want this removed

Hahahahaha......."You boys like MEX-I-CO!!!?????"

Lorain is home, about 30 mins west of Cleveland on Lake Erie. I'd prefer for my buddy to come down here, so we could do it in my garage, but he's pretty unwilling to drive "all the way down here" (an hour) for whatever reason he can come up with. No gas or money for gas, gotta watch the kids while girlfriend shops (mind you she's around 30, no license, no job, and they get gov't help), got plans, etc. So, I'm stuck going up there and doing this in his yard in the middle of the ghetto, weather permitting since his 1 car garage isn't big enough and looks like a stiff breeze would blow it down. lol

First thing that popped in my head was "supertroopers". That movie cracks me up!

Got the install done today! (headbang)

It's pretty freaking LOUD. hehe The slim mount sub is definitely louder in a larger box, but it still sounds the same as it did, i.e.-hits and doesn't hit certain bass notes, just much louder. lol. Wound up running the Polk tweeters and rear speakers off the radio, and the component set and sub off the amp. Started at 9am, and didn't finish until 4pm. Much longer than I thought it'd take, but we did do alot.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I was hoping the sub would be a bit louder, but it's not a big deal. I'll be over it in 2 weeks and the knob will be turned down from there on out. LOL REALLY happy with how clean we did everything. Ran new speaker wires through the door plugs, ran wires nicely under the carpet, zip tied them cleanly under the dash, mounted tweeters in the mirror trim, amp under the seat and out of the way, red LED's under dash, and bass knob and LED switch in the blank and coin inserts by the fog light and dimmer switches.

I just need to find a way to secure the box in the back. It slides around under "spirited" driving, but I also need to be able to easily take it out for dog hauling.

Rear door...

I think I'm going to find another one of those "blank" inserts to mount the LED switch. This one works for now though...

Never mind all the scratches on the amp, it's 3 years old. lol

Very nice work :)

Are those door garnish pieces (I swear that's what it's called, check the service manual) with the tweeter grill stock for the 2003 model? That makes for a very clean tweeter install, it's a shame the PO made holes in the doors...

I'm not sure, hopefully one of the p5 knowledge guys can chime in. lol

And yea, dumbest move ever on his part. PLENTY of other GOOD mounting options on the door panel, and he chose that spot. His posts are hilarious too, because he actually thought they looked good there and was pleased with the outcome!?

Could work! I'd just have to see how much sticks out once the box was out. I'd hate for one of the dogs to get impaled with some metal. lol
