JosueP5's '03 Protege5 Build Thread.

They initially light up white, then switch to red after it does it's little dance. The water temp was weird though....it was white, doing it's dance, then switched to red, then back to white and started flashing? I just chalked it up to not being fully hooked up maybe?

Gauges are nice to have. I have a boost/vacuum, wideband o2, oil pressure, and voltage. I like knowing what's going on with the engine.

I don't think it's possible ... or at least it won't be very easy. I don't think the motor can be moved enough towards the passenger side so that it clears the transmission's input shaft.

It would be interesting to try though :)

Yeah, I can't remember if it's possible or not. I know it is on Mk2 VW's and on EK Civics...

Chris - I came across a pic of that wire set the other day. It had the wires, bracket, and that ground that was by the battery. Only thing missing were the coils. Solves that mystery! Haha

Broke the $%@&^!? key on my sis-in-laws Honda Pilot a couple of weeks ago trying to get the lugs broken. It wasn't until after I dropped $20 at a local tire shop that I found out the 12pt socket was the key...my stoopid ass was trying to hammer a 6pt 18mm socket onto a 19mm lock. lmao Had I known beforehand I would have bought the socket at Sears and pounded away...lifetime guarantee FTW. hehe

Good to know since I went through 2 keys already... those damn things are so thin and bend like a b****.

Yeah, gauges are nice. I want them more now that Pablo said he had to back off at the track when his oil temp was almost in the red. That stuff is good to know!

And as far as the engine/tranny being pulled, I remember we didn't disconnect Kevin's ball joints or tie rods. I can't freaking remember what we loosened up to clear everything. But I'm sure you'll figure it out, brotha. I'll be texting you while we pull mine and let you know any tricks to it.

I just replaced my cv shaft, and the haynes manual said to disconnect the ball joint, but I read it wasn't necessary on one of the forums. I think there would be enough room if you unbolted the steering knuckle from the strut and bent the LCA down (which was recommended on the forum as they said you didn't need to get another alignment). Now, I was also working on the passenger side, so I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes, room-wise. I think the Protege and 626 are pretty similar, in actuality. I ended up tearing my ball joint boot in the process, so I learned how to press it out and press in a new one. It wasn't that bad.

Ball joint removal tools are FTW. No boot ripping involved.

Mine is coming out as soon as this key comes. ;-)

Now that the process of getting it on the road has started, I'm itching to keep working on it! On the agenda tonight...make a list of what all I'm going to need for this car and how much it will all cost. Then compare that list to the projected number from parts sales and see where I'm at. The wife wants a DSLR camera, so I'm hoping I can pay for one during all this. Hehe

ah ha! I haven't hooked them up yet. I'm gonna try and install them this weekend since I gotta work. I'll have to take a 2nd look @ the coils.

Mine were almost cracked in half since they're over 15 year old already, but a crow bar and a towel is probably not the best method if you want to keep the boot intact...

I would look for a used Canon Digital Rebel XT, XTi, XSi, etc, something in that range. I have the XTi and love it. The photo quality is up there with the best of the cameras that aren't full-frame. They're not bad on Craigslist if you get if from someone reputable, like a pro photographer's back up camera or something.

She wants brand new. :( Stopped into Dodd Camera the other night, and they suggested a Nikon D3100 for beginners. Reviews look great on it, but it's alot of scrilla! As are most DSLR's though.

And I'm leaning towards just a Prosport Voltmeter to match the water temp.

They have a similar style for an A/F gauge, but I don't know if I'll like a needle bouncing around so much? The light show on the other ones is cool (IMO), but I think a needle being so active would annoy me. lol

What style of locking lug is it? I just remembered that I have a set of MSP locks and key at home.

A pic I had in my inbox. Can you see the pattern good enough? (I'm on my phone, so I don't know how it looks on a regular screen)

Yep, that works well enough to tell me that it's a different style than what I have. Sorry man!

Haha...

I'm pulling the motor tomorrow night, so if I don't have the key by then, I'll just have to do the 12pt method Jeff described!
