JL W7 vs W6V2...and wattage.

I currently have 1 12" JLW6V2 and a 500/1 JL amp ready to be installed in my P5. I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to the W7 but don't know if 500 watts will be able to get the most out of it especially in a sealed enclosure.

So 1.How much harder do the W7s hit than the W6V2s.
2. If I were to upgrade to a W7 would I need the 1000/1 to power it sufficiently in a sealed enclosure.
3. Has ANYONE even heard the W6V2s yet?!

Back in the day I had 3 JL 12" W6s in a sealed enclosure powered by a Soundstream Reference 700sx. It slammed, I think I was in the low 140s...like 142-144db. Now I know there's no way I'll come close to the spl of 3 12" woofers with a single 12. But how much better are the W6V2s compared to the old W6s?

A W7 will hit lower and louder then a W6v2. A W7 is a true sub in that it will not do punchy bass at all. Alot of people have complained about this but truist love the W7.

A 500/1 is plenty of poer for a 10W7 or 12W7.

THe 12W6v2 would be my reccomendation to you. If you want the most potential volume then the W7 is the way to go.

The 500/1 is actualy a little much for the 12W6v2 but you can set the gain lower then with the W7 and the amp will give you alot more headroom whichis always a good thing.

I don't know of a single person that likes the old W6s over the new ones.

The guys in the store said the 500/1 would be sufficient for a ported 12 W7 but not sealed. They said in sealed enclosures it needs more power to perform. Is this true?
Also do you think it's worth trading the W6V2 for a W7 and keeping the 500/1 amp.
Lastly what do you mean the W7 isn't a "punchy" amp? Do you mean it doens't hit has hard but is louder?! How does that work? lol

THe W7 is a true subwoofer in that it will in no way play midbass, unlike the W6v2. Read this, you'll see what i mean.

And this was for a 10, you can estimate the 12 would be even less "quick". I have actauly heard several authorities, in mt opinion, mention the same thing.

The 500/1 isn't going to get the most out of te 12W7 but it will work just fine and play damn well for tht matter. Even show cars ment for competition are running 12W7s with 500/1s. I didn't think the 500/1 could do it either until I read a review on int at carsound.com and found that the 500/1 pumps out 733 watts. With either a Sealed or Ported W7 the 500/1 will do the job.

So which would be louder a W7 with my 500/1 or my W6V2 with the 500/1?
What's the price difference between the two? Is it worth upgrading?

How about a 12W6v2 vs a 10W7 if they were both powered by a 500/1?

12W6v2- $460
12W7 - $750

No its not worth upgrading. Also remeber the 12W7 is 11" deep and need a larger box so you will loose more of you trunk space.
The W7 would be louder but not by much if at all. If it was with a 1000/1 then the W7 would be louder definitly.
