Jeff's MSP GTR Build

I really wish there was an adapter plate for the FS. Oh well, how are you gonna work the axles? Toyota inner with mazda outer?

well guys with 1st gens have been using mx3 v6 control arms and a mix of toyota axles.

here is the how to for the swap in a egt

http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45016

Axles - For the inner stub and intermediate shaft, grab these parts from a 91-92 MR2 turbo. For the actual CV joints and axle shafts, you will need to get them from an ST185 celica alltrac (front). These can be found at the parts store for 70-80 each. Right and left axles are identical. For the intermediate shaft, I made a 90* gusseted bracket that bolts between the block and the stock MR2 bearing carrier.

Track width - The alltrac axles were just a smidge too long to keep the suspension 100% stock. You can either swap to MX3 lower control arms, or use 86-88 RX7 ball joints to widen the track slightly and prevent axle binding. To use the rx7 ball joints you need 92.5+ protg front spindles, or 98+ escort front spindles. I opted to swap balljoints rather than LCA's, so I switched to some 99 escort front spindles. Search the forum for more details on these swaps if needed.

This shows the setup dropped down to N/A spec for tuning of the ITBS. I just took off the turbo and ran a flexi pipe from the turbo manifold to the midpipe until I get the ITBS as good as I can tuning TPS + AlphaN.

My work and the holidays have been pwning me lately so I am still trying to get someone to come shoot a vid or 2.

You have come a long way since I first started following your build threads years ago!

thanks

how did you do this i like it

it is just a block off plate from a computer that had a cdrom installed. remove the stock din and then drill a hole in the back for you wires to pass through. The din gets smaller as it goes back so about an inch in my plate becomes tighly fit and will go no further back and I wedge it in nice so that it cannot move. The piece is a block off plate from any normal computer that has room for a standard size cdrom.

forgot to post video of the first start on this forum. might be old news for some of ya.

their was alot of smoke from the exhaust paint and oil and ps fluid on the exhaust midpipe, and all 4 cylinders are leaking from the header which is the ticking loud ticking sound.

the itbs make the great sound when you rev em but all the camera phone really only pics up if the insanely loud leaking manifold and the lifters which sat for 5 months. sounds much better now that i have run the engine a few times and fixed the leaking exhaust. I will try and get another video out soon showing some progress.
