J&S Safeguard Question

lol Damn shoulda waited for the J&S version to come out....
well we didn't know a few months ago that john is going to make the new version... demand has always been low on these things until everyone started realizing how good these things were recently, especially after they heard that the old one were in limited supplies.... so had you waited and john decided to not make them, you would've been ******

also, the older units still get the job done.

There has been mention of the J&S working with aftermarket engine management (e.g. Microtech) earlier in the thread. Can someone explain how exactly this would work? If I was to have an uneducated guess, I would think that the J&S would sit between the Engine Management and the ignition system in order to retard the timing if it is detecting knock. Can someone please provide some more information?

Cheers.

you simply not let your EMS control timing and let the stock ECU do it and it ought to work fine then

Are there any updates on who is using the units and if they like them or not. I am looking for one if anyone has it for sale, just want to make sure its everything advertised.

I love mine pulling 1degree/psi starting at 9psi+2degrees mid-range from 3500-4500rpms.

One thing I just found out though is the maf clamp feature will not work at least as far as John from J&S and I have been able to figure out. Maybe with an inline resistor.

What is the MAF clamp for? How does it work with the unit? What is its purpose?

BTW SHANE: everytime you post, I have to sit here for 20 minutes going through all the goodies you have on your sick ass ride. Seriously... you need to write a book on that! DAMN. (sorry had to vent)

Your maf sensor has to much airflow that eventhough the Haltech doesn't tune thru it the stock ecu still freaks out and hits fuel/ign cut and throws a cel. The FCD (fuelcut defender) clamps the maf voltage at like 4.95 or whatever to avoid this.

6 years of $5k+ income tax returns...being a single dad of 2 little ones has a few payoffs. I could never part with her knowing what I'd get back.

I highly recommend the dmh elec cutout. I welded a turndown to a flange to bolt on there since it was so tight. Dumps right under the im +300-500 rpms spool-up and steady boost at least until I get another cel that is! It's very loud but just cruising around it sounds like a diesel truck...very mean.
