I agree, to a point, Craig.
What I see as Mazda's true "FAILURE" is the controlling part that FORD has over them.
To sum up why Mazda will never put out a high output car is simple. When Honda, and the other import cars started to really hit the states, a "gentlemens agreement" was made with the BIG 3. This agreement was basically, you dont import high output cars, we wont build the quality you do. (hence why most Domestic cars never last more then 5 years, but Imports will last 20)
Mitsu, and Suby said to hell with that, and are now putting out killer cars (Evo and STI) and now Nissan is going to release the beast known as the Skyline. (will be 400+whp) Mazda, with having to deal with Fords hand in thier pockets, will never be able to put a high output, well built car in the US market. Ford would lose much business on its own products that way. This is why you will never see a car over 230-240 HP (RX-8) released by Mazda.
You can say my statements are way off target, but I call it how I have seen the industry operate over the last 20-25 years. All my information is based on information that either has been well known, or obtained from reliable sources in the industry.
I would love to see a 300+ WHP RX-8 from MAzdaspeed, but that will more then likely never happen. As far as more Mazdaspeed cars coming out after the Miata, I would suspect it would be the RX-8, and they would see it in thier best interest to stay away from doing any 4 door sedan with the MAzdaspeed Badge.
