It was bound to happen

Hey Joe, where are you takin it to get painted, i got a couple of pieces that need some paint as well, and i loved the job he did on your old valve cover (if it is the same guy)

Yeah, its the same guy who painted my old one. Let me know what you need to get painted and I will let my buddie know and when he could do it. Fredo's got my #.

Yep. He's a good guy. The reason for such the wait is that my parts and the parts for the bimmer are coming in at the same time. So he's has to go back and forth with both cars to get them done. Im heading to his shop tomorrow to grab my valve cover so my buddie could paint it. I will be happy when I get it back. We are gunna go for 400whp full boost for the track. 330-350whp daily. And fredo, answer your phone, I left a message earlier for you to call me back.

Your getting the work done by Manuel right? I'm about to do it soon to the built motor and f10x so let me know how it goes. I'll be happy just turning the boost up on this turbo , I'm not really interested in the #'s hp/tq.

A little while back I was supposed to get you the guys # to tune the MPi but I couldnt get in contact with the guy who knows him. Just by the way thats why I never got back to you...

Yeah, my car is supposed to be at 300+ whp too. And mine also took several weeks if not almost a month or so to get back from his shop. Just don't look at those numbers or whatever you think the car might be able to do and expect exactly that. It's not going to happen right away and more than likely you won't get it back by Mazdapolooza.

It'll also take several trips back and forth in order to get what you're looking for. On one trip it was "expect about 300 or more at the wheels". The next trip, it was dyno'd at 253whp. The last trip it went down to 247whp. He still hasnt fixed the problem, but I just don't have all these weekends to drive down 2 hours each way and get back home a few hours before bedtime and wake for work the next morning at 5am. I also need to have my LSD welded which I asked about, but I guess he didnt hear me when I asked him about it. So thats another thing all together that I need done one of these days and another few hundred dollars later.

Yup, this is the last Mazda I own. And if it weren't for all the money I've dumped into this money pit, it would've been gone by now. But now I've got so much money put into it, I think I'm going to be buried in it when I grow old and die.

Dont get me wrong, I'm happy first thing in the morning when I have nothing but tire squeel and a loud BOV hauling ass down the road. However, after a while of driving, there goes the loud BOV sound, there goes my fuel (cause I can smell it), here comes some hesitation and rough idling. First and second... slowwwww... 3rd gear at higher RPM, easier to deal with and boost kicks in great, everything else is just ok. I'm just not as impressed as I should be. Oh well, one of these days I'm sure I'll be taking the car back again. I just dont want to waste anymore time than I need to if it's not going to be fixed after the 5-6 th time at the shop.

This too will also be my last Mazda :(

An Infinity G35 will take it's place one day :D

i can see it now, a red G35 coupe with gold volk rims with a lip so ig i'll never need another mirror and HIDs so blue they look like the ocean

damn i need a towel

Well, I already made it very clear that I need to have my car back before mazdapalooza and he has been assuring me that I will. Its only him working on the cars so I could see why the time to complete the job could take weeks or more. I dont blame him for the time it takes and I appreciate his work. He is the only one working on the cars with no help. It has already been there 2 weeks and he pulled the motor tonight. Im going there tomorrow and talking to him and picking up some things. Im very confident in him that my car will be running strong and will let everyone know how it goes. And I will be at Mazdasummerpalooza with it :)

Why are you having hesitation and a rough idle? Is that because it's a standalone that you have - heatsoak??? 1st and 2nd gear Slow? Do explain...

If I knew what the problem was, it would've been fixed by now. I've been back and forth at the shop having him try to figure out what the deal is. I'm no mechanic and everything has been pretty much covered.

The most frustrating part is, I've got more mods than 80% of the people with MSPs on here and damn if I can get this thing running right. Don't think it's heat soak, but who the hell knows. It could be a number of things, but it's frustrating when you spend litterally thousands of dollars on something that should be running laps around 350's, crossfires, EVO's, etc. I may make one last trip to Miami, but it won't be for a while. I dont want this guy working on anyone else's car while mine is there. I think thats been one of the problems. It's hard to work on something and give 100% if you're working on two cars at once.

My biggest problem at this point is, I live over two hours away and I dont have whole weekends to keep spending over there without a car, getting shuttled around by family, just to get it back the same way I brought it in. The last time I brought it in one of my belts came off. I had to tighten it over and over because he left out a bracket that holds it in place. I also lost my brakes. Now I have to replace those too. I don't stop on the dime going 70mph and I didnt think that someone else would do it to my car either, but now they're gone after the last shop visit. I first noticed on the visit before last. But this last one a month or so ago really did the job. Now I have to downshift to stop slower which ticks me off when I have a child that rides in the backseat.

I'm just frustrated overall and it's costing me more money every time I take the long ass trip just for nothing to happen with it. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but it costs me money to make plans with family to stay at their place, I have to wake up at 6am to drive over 2 hours away, have someone drop me off, pick me up, drag my kid with me, make arrangements to have someone watch my dog while I'm gone, gas money each way plus tolls, new brakes on my car because he wears them out on his test runs, .... the list goes on. I don't have the luxury as some people have nor the patience after a year of hell with two different mechanics and a car that works less than expected with thousands of dollars in mods and labor.

I may take my car there one last time and if it's not fixed right, it'll be my last trip. Lord only knows that I've been more than patient and hopeful that everything will work out. But damnit at only 243 whp and an average of only 6psi daily driving it sux ass.

Are you running an MSP ECU or a P5 one? As for it being hard to get what you want. Isn't it supposed to be hard to mod a car (that isn't a honda). I see where you are coming from with blowing money and the hastle to find rides etc. But you gotta pay to play too. I have blown thousands as well into an 80k car that now needs a new tranny. LSD, clutch and synchros all going in and im at 6 psi with a gt28 and all the other goodies, still haven't enjoyed its full potential. I still have to do the engine and i'm still untuned.

I haven't even had the chance to feel first gear pulls since the clutch slips and the car bogs like a horse. I totally see what you're saying but hey live with what you got, I know I would. A car is a car if you want to make it a monster it's a frustratin thing and you gotta role with the punches. I bow down to your car and honestly would enjoy it as it is now and not bother with it if you think it's too much of a hastle. I got a chance to see it in person it is a fine peice of machinery but us car people are never satisfied.

Joe, sorry im dropping my car off at his place tommorow. : (

I don't think he's got all that room in there for 3 cars!

He's tuned the car SEVERAL times, if I just had it tuned once or twice, I wouldn't expect all that much to be exactly perfect. I HAVE PAID to play.. literally. I've done everything except buy a radiator and weld the LSD. But thats it. If you look at my garage, the car's not exactly a monster per se, but it should keep me pretty happy driving daily down the street, which it's not. I didn't build the car to track it every weekend, but I did spend over $9k in the car already so I think I've paid enough to get it working pretty good. My father and brother both owned actual race cars and they've never had this many problems as I had. Unfortunetly, neither of them can work on Mazda's.

And I'll be back in the shop soon enough, but only when all of you guys get your cars fixed and get out so he can concentrate on my problem. I live too far to wait on everyone else to get fixed and only have about 2 hours to myself. I've been in and out of there since Feburary, so I guess I can wait until next month to go back for my um-teenth try.

And I have a full stand alone btw. The only thing the Mazda ECU handles is my A/C.

You mean the problems you blamed on the Unichip months ago? :-/

Oh noooo. that was a DIFFERENT problem! I'm telling you, my car just doesn't want to be "assimilated".

Quick readers digest of the Unichip problem:

1) Had mods put on
2) went to a mechanic to get it tuned in NC with new mods
3) mechanic "tuned" it
4) Unichip stopped working and car started to smoke after dyno runs after said tune
5) Sent said Unichip to their Corp. office
6) Said Unichip could not be fixed, they replaced it totally with a new one.
7) Sold Unichip since I got the Haltech stand alone and had to build the motor since no one could find the actual smoking problem after taking it to 3 mechanics.

Don't get me wrong, the car runs HELLA better than it did after the Unichip nightmare and dyno run that possibly blew a ring. But with the additional mods, new turbo, injectors, build engine and full stand alone... the car should be running like a champ. It runs MUCH better... just not running as it should be. I think I've been the most patient MSP owner on the board thus far and I just want to be happy with my daily driver. I especially would be TREMENDOUSLY happy with a wallet that actually has money in it for a change.
:D

I'm in the same boat as you lara. 9k into the car, and i am happy its running, but i wish it was complete.

nvmsp said:
Lara you say u usually run 6psi, right? You got 243whp with 6psi or more?
Nope. Got that with supposedly 15 psi on the dyno according to the mechanic. At 15 psi, it should've been doing alot more.

At 15 psi, i would imagine you're over 300whp
I am making 250 on 10 pounds, same turbo, built engine, and 8.5:1 compression...

Damn. They should be able to figure out wats wrong. Something isnt right in the tune. Has he messed with the timing as far as changing the stock timing?

Either way obviously the car needs more tuning. Have you lost to cars on the street, is that why you say 1st and 2nd are slow? Or does the car just not feel all that fast? Because even with that much horsepower you should be beating stock Evo's etc.
