Is the P5 the most popular Mazda?

Maybe this has been discussed before. Sorry, I am a nOOb here.

Why does the P5 forum have more threads and hits than the others? Is the P5 the most numerous model from those represented in "Mazda Forums"? Or, are us P5 owners more fanatical about what we drive and are consequently more proud of it.

I certainly see more regular Protege's on the road than P5's but I suspect that most of those drivers don't post to forums like this.

there have been more miatas sold in the world than any other sports car.

i think p5 owners love their cars more then other drivers. we enjoy driving them more and it takes a very special person to drive one
....and the car kind of grows on you so much that it replaced my girlfriend...
well no just kidding :)

it's got killer looks, exceptional handling, it's quick... what else can you ask for? :p

Mazda's are drivers' cars. People who enjoy feeling the road get a Mazda. P5s have a cult following (us in the forum), just like some other Mazdas (RX-7, MSP, MP3).

But yeah, miatas win, hands down. I'll try counting how many Miatas I see in a week, it's amazing how many there are out there  Go Miatas!!! :D

I dunno I have started seeing alot of P5s driving around which is amazing for how short of time they've been out.
Do see more Miata's but not many new ones most are the older models.

This is exactly correct. Have you even noticed you will 100 miatas before you see a MP5? MP5's are by far the most popular car on this forum though:D

Hell yeah!! I remember when the Pro5 thread # surpassed the MP3 one.

MSPs are going up real fast, though, they might pass us soon. But you gotta figure that half of them are threads from AGR professing his love for his MSP :D

Half? I thought it was more like 80% :)

Perhaps we need to start our own

I LOVE MY P5

I am now up to two P5 sightings in Houston since a week ago Monday. And yes, countless Miata sightings.

I remember a time when the sight of a Miata brought lots of excitement and ooohs and aaah's. Now they are almost like VW's. Not that there is anything wrong with a Miata but they are very common now.

Speaking of driver's cars, once upon a time, I drove a Ford Explorer. When my wife let me drive her '01 Millenia, I thought I was driving a sports car. Now that I am in the world of P5's, last night I drove that same Millenia and thought "this is a big lumbering car". And in actuality, the Millenia is one of the finest driving mid sized sedans out there that is not a premium brand.

The MSP forum actually has more posts, 43116 vs. our 36723. But like you pointed out, most of those are people talking about how much they love their car. Or talking smack about the SRT-4.

But we've still got more threads, 3436 vs. their 2672.

Interesting numbers.

(rofl) That's great! Keep in mind that MSP's are never going to catch up to P5's. Even with the new batches coming the MP5 is sold in masses by comparison. I'm just glad to see how 99.9% all the mazda worlds blend so nicely...awww the harmony(usa) (canada)

friend at the dealership said the MPV is by far Mazda's biggest seller....but of course we don't even notice those :)

I bought mine sept. 02 - now there are three on the street I live on. The other two are driven by undergrad chicks.

How do P5 sales stack up versus other Mazda's in the time since they have been available? Of course overall there are more Miata's, but what do sales numbers look like for the past couple of years? Anyone know?

Note that this forum originates in canada where the Protege5 is one of the best selling cars of any manufacturer. In the U.S. it's only a blip on the radar screen.

Regarding sales, well, Mazda started out on a corporate restructuring/rebuilding program and the first effort from that was the '01 protege and mp3's, then the mpv mp5 and msp's, then the 6 then the rx8, you get what i mean. So naturally the protege5 when introduced, basically cannibalized all other sales of other mazda models. The 626 and millenia (can't believe such a gorgeous car didn't sell well) were being phased out at the time, and the mp3's were all gone so all one can do was buy the mp5. That's why I got mine...

It's been said that the P5 is the Japanese version of the VW Golf GTi of the late 80's early 90's... Similar ingrediants, fun to drive, very affordable and practical.

I think its the target audience that makes the P5 popular on this board.

Teenagers and 20 somethings are more likely to do research on the internet and 'mod' their cars. Not to exclude the women on this board, but I think more men are attracted to the P5 as well.

I also see more Miatas on the road but they have been around for more than 2 years and attract an older crowd and alot of women (women always like the smaller cars cause they're cute). Again, no offense to the women on this board, but you'd be lucky to get one to go in for an oil change let alone visit a website on a regular basis.

Since the target audience is the same audience that would be most likely to visit an online forum, you get a larger percentage of the owners signing on.
