Is 08 the end of the MS3

Great thinking man. When you take it out to sell it in 2020, let me know. I would love to pick up a nice MS3 for real cheap.

Unless you are buying an exotic it isn't going to appreciate. Even then its not likely.

What exotic do you know that aprreciates? There's no exotics that do! In fact they depreciate faster than cheaper cars because of their ridiculous pricing. Except maybe a McLaren F1. It's when a car becomes a classic or when it's produced in super low quantities when it starts to rise in value...that and big power when there isn't any...just look at how expensive any muscle car is from the 60's and early 70's. Once the eighties hit they started to rise and rise and rise in price because these cars were good looking and powerful during a time you couldn't get a car that was nearly as potent. $150,000 for a 1967 corvette big block now...someone is saying chaching!!

Would they really discontinue it? Really? I mean with all of the positive press it's received, and with the majority of them selling like hotcakes, wouldn't they be a bit foolish to discontinue it? Sure, they may introduce another speed vehicle, but why wouldn't they keep this one around, even just for one more year to capitalize on their good publicity and hot sales and profits?
Or are there manufacturer cost reasons and other reasons behind this that I am unaware of?
It just seems pretty silly to stop at the peak of popularity.

That, and I'm hoping to get one next summer, but if it's discontinued..... prices skyrocket and they become even slimmer to find new than they are now! ---bad news for me...

i say lets make the mazda van i thinks its the mazda 5 correct me if im wrong the next SPEED model.. haha ive seen some tricked out caravans at the track.. can u imagine the look u would get if u rolled up to an Evo or something and smoked them in a van. hahaha now thats funny.

im afraid that the ms3 is doing to well! dealers around here cant keep them in stock! and now they have a lot of back orders for the white ones! it would be sweet if they did stop making it but i think there is to much money involved!

i can see at least another year out of them, they are the best selling mazdaspeed model that has been released, the only one that is/has been back ordered... why would they drop the hottest selling car in their line? that is like automotive suicide

Part of the products demand is the exclusiveness of the Mazdaspeed brand. They don't want to saturate the market with Mazdaspeed vehicles for that precise reason. If they do go for another year, it will probably be the last.

I honestly expect something like this:

http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/mazda-rx8-extreme.htm

to be the next Mazdaspeed product, before they discontinue the RX-8 model entirely.

Vehicles have a life cycle, and when you try to milk a vehicle beyond that life cycle, you have all kinds of issues selling the car. If you're going to retire a vehicle, might as well do it when popularity is high and exclusiveness is still part of the draw to the vehicle.

Same thing was said about the MSP...Trust me..Its still just a semi cheap vehicle with a decent turbo..It will not Appreciate by any means..nor will it be sought after as a collectors item.
Its just a Turbo pocket rocket..It has a time and a place...Both are now.

no, it wont appreciate, but it will be worth more if fewer are sold than if they extend to another year

Because its not a volume model. Not meant to be. Mazda isn't making obscene profits off the car so that it would be stupid to kill it. To kill the 3 in general would. Your forgetting...enthusiast cars are not volume cars, and I would bet money that 99% of people who roll into a Mazda dealer aren't doing it because of the Mazdaspeed cars. Mazda isn't going to go bankrupt or loose massive business because they are moving to a new Mazdaspeed platform. And whilst I don't have the actual sales figures in front of me (I can try to find them, however, using data that I have), I seriously doubt that the Mazdaspeed3 is the hottest selling car in their entire line up. I would wager that a dealership, given and equal amount of Speed3s and regular 3s, would sell out of the regular 3s much, much faster.

the rx-8 is far from over. there is a new rotary coming out in 2010 boasting 1.6 liters, more power and better milage. even though the current rx8 has been troublesome for owners who don't drive and take care of them properly, i think they need to keep trying to build a better rotary. this a wild dream, but wouldn't it be fun for mazda to build a super car to compete with vettes, and the new gt-r using their 3 rotor race engine that has 450 horses??!!?? a boy can only dream.

Furai.

Actually, the most likely next MAZDASPEED vehicle will be the RX-8.....

well at the LA car show they had a rx-8 with the mazda speed kit on it. They where advertising mazdaspeed kits to buy I believe. I should have taken a picture of the engine.

The RX-8's styling is almost due to be changed anyways. I know there was a recent concept from Mazda that is supposed to present styling cues for what might be the next RX car.

I am personally hoping for the MS3 to be discontinued after 2008.5 and for the RX-8 to receive the JDM Mazdaspeed treatment for its final ho-rah.

How about the Enzo. The Porsche Carrera GT. I'm pretty sure both of those went up in value. Also, most exotics are produced in low quantities. Honestly us MSP guys know from experience that just because your car is rare doesn't mean its worth more. If you haven't noticed, cars seem to be getting more powerful these days anyway so that theory is out too.

I don't believe they actually appricate at all. My understanding is that depreciation is absed on a mathematical forumla of age, cost at time of purchase, and a few other factors. However, that doesn't mean the cost itself doesn't go up. Cars like the Enzo and Carrera GT and other super exotics are seller market cars. Its not like someone can say...I don't want to pay X Million, so I'll go somewhere else to buy it.

Desire and cost don't equal apprication of cost.
