iPod/iPhone connection and bluetooth

I know there have been countless threads about the bluetooth system and iPod connection issues. I have a iPhone 6 with the most up to date version of iOS, and cannot get the iPod connection to work. It just says error or something along those lines, okay I know it doesn't work, but why can I not change my phone and play music over bluetooth?

Does the iPhone default to try and play over the wired connection when plugged in? Is there a way to use the usb port on the cx-5 as a power only usb and not data? are there cables that only use the two power ports of usb and not the data connection?

I have the same configuration. I can play over both, most of the time, with the USB connected to the phone. Although this weekend nothing would work, lost bluetooth connection and all. I rebooted my phone and it worked. What I can't seem to do right now is use any other ipod. "Ipod Error." (gah)
