IPOD Adapter?

Just curious - Has anyone tried to install an IPOD adapter on the Mazda2? I dont see that there is one advertised for the 2 in the US, but I saw that the C9F2V6572 JP is the Japanese version...

sooooo, I am thinking that the C9F2V6572 US is the North American version (just a guess :). This is the same one as the Mazda3 (I think). It appears that it also requires the switching box (TD1379CFZ) to retain the use of the Aux jack.

Anybody done this or know if it will work?

I haven't heard of anyone doing this, but don't let it stop you. Just make sure you snap some photos for your DIY (thumb)

Seriously though, if you try it and it works, I'd be interested in doing it as well. In theory, would it allow for the iPod to be controlled through the head unit?

Hmmm its pretty expensive, so I would want to make sure I can return it if it doesnt work...

In theory, yes, it should control the the IPOD through the radio. As I understand it, this radio is not much different than the ones in the Mazda3/5 etc. and they all allow for control through the headunit/steering wheel controls

You could always try to convince your service rep to install the adapter when they swap your radio out for the cold-weather recall.

Hmmm... Good idea!
however, i havent gotten any notice about the cold-weather recall... wonder if they had already changed it out before i bought it.

Hi Richard, have you tried it yet or any news on if the adapter works? And do you think the installation is simple enough to do it yourself or just go with a professional?

Havent tried it... the adapter is pretty expensive and there are several similar models out... I dont have the money to try something that might not work, so I kinda gave up and have just been using the AUX jack... I imagine installation wouldnt be much harder than most audio head-unit installations, so it depends on how comfortable you are.

I've got an XCarLink that was previously installed in an 06 Miata that i'd like to try installing in my 2 when I get it. If someone can pass me instructions on how to pull the head unit on the 2, I should be able to get answers on this by the end of the weekend.

Don't know if there is a unit available for the 2, but I did that with my Infinty G35 and I would not opt for that in my 2. First you will have to pull the head unit to attach the wires and the unit I used had a constant drain on the battery even with the engine off. Drained the battery while I was on vacation twice. I had to keep unplugging the cable from the device. This was not a short but the it functioned in the g35.

For me I am using my iPod with a line out connection instead of headphone jack running through a portable amp. Plus I have the sport version so no steering wheel controls

I pulled some of the center column apart the other day and I believe I see how to get the stereo out. either this weekend or next week sometime i'm going to plug my XCarLink in and see what happens.

I know on other cars installing an ipod adapter or sirius killed the Aux Input unless you had a ~$150 switchbox from Mazda. The XCarLink has its own Aux In though, so that doesn't seem like a huge loss.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the OEM ipod adapter, but this thing was awesome in my Miata, and I'm hoping it'll be awesome in the 2 as well.

If this works, I'm really gonna want steering wheel controls. someone should figure that one out while im figuring this one out :)

do you mean the aux in, or you actually have something that plugs into the bottom port on your ipod and lets you skip tracks through the stereo controls?

Any progress on this? I notice that some of the eBay sellers specify that theirs are not compatible with the "MP3 Stereo" which is probably a bad sign.

Actually, since what these units do is emulate a CD changer, I suppose the head unit would have to be compatible with one. I haven't seen anything indicating that an actual CD changer is even an option.

There are people out there that have already pulled their head unit. finding out whether there's port on the back of that and if it looks anything like the ports on the head units that do accept the adapter would be a good start.

I was going to check, but I traded my 2 in, and my wife is less cool with me taking her interior apart "just to check something" :)
