Intermittant idle drop after timing belt/tune up.

I recently took on the task of changing my timing belt, and doing a tune up on the car. I changed the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket, plugs, wires, PCV valve, and cleaned the EGR valve.

The engine seems to be running smoothly, good acceleration, and most of the time smooth idle. However, occasionally the RPM's drop, and it feels like the car is going to stall out.

Any suggestions? Also, I was curious if anyone had a source for aftermarket metal covers that cover the timing belt. My middle cover didn't seat perfectly, and it rubs slightly on the water pump. It would be nice to replace these if anything exists!

Thanks,
Ross

Check the air intake tube for cracks (the accordion one between the MAF and the throttle body). If it's not that, maybe you didn't put the EGR valve back on properly, or perhaps you damaged it while cleaning it (not very likely).

As a matter of fact, my air intake tube did have a crack in it, but I tried my best to seal it off, then wrapped it in duct tape. Maybe it still has a leak?

I guess I'm in the market for a new air intake. Any suggestions?

did the same exact tune-up with the same exact result. low idle drops.

still working on fixing.

keep me/us updated.
