Intelligent, Adaptive Shift-Points on a Tuned Skyactiv Mazda6

To be fair, I hardly paid much attention to the precise little shift points on my "6", back when it was running on the stock ECU tune and 87 octane. The car is so stubborn on sticking to the lowest gears, I find that it was constantly lugging below 2000rpm. Switching to 91 Octane helped tremendously. Now, I've made an interesting observation with the warmer weather coming in here in Canada. Whereas the transmission and its default shift strategy was so stubborn on ignoring my requests to rev past like 1600rpm, to just upshift instead, with the hot weather, it hovers around 1750rpm before shifting. Driving the next morning in cooler weather, the TCU hastily reverted to its default shift strategy, refusing to respond with anything less than half-throttle. It is fascinating to see how smart the computers in these vehicles are.

In short, the vehicle wants to maintain something between 1250-1750rpm, and will not respond otherwise unless you are aggressive with the throttle. For those of you who are frequently driving aggressively, I know that the TCU will try to prevent it... But how well does it adapt in the long term? The stock TCU shift strategy is totally hellbent on maintaining this conservative rev range.
